from threat level: A Barbie doll tricked out with a video camera concealed in her necklace could be used by predators to create child pornography, warns the FBI in a recent cybercrime alert. In the alert, mistakenly released to the press, the FBI expressed concern that the toy’s camera, which can capture 30 minutes of video and rivals a Canon 7D in quality, could be used to lure children and surreptitiously film child pornography. Barbie and other dolls have been used in the past by sexual predators to attract victims.

According to ABC News, which obtained a copy of the memo, the FBI appears to have opened an investigation into the doll. Mattel, the maker of Barbie Video Girl, noted in a statement that the FBI didn’t say it knew of any cases where the Barbie camera had been used for such nefarious purposes.

But a sheriff’s spokesman told ABC News that the FBI alert will be helpful for drawing attention to investigators collecting evidence at a crime scene. “When we’re doing a search warrant looking for media that a child pornographer may have used, we’re gonna have to put Barbie on the list just like any other cameras [and] computers,” said Sgt. John Urquhart from the King County Sheriff’s Department in Washington state.

Anybody who refuses the Big Brother demand could face arrest and a possible prison sentence. The new rules come in legislation unveiled in today's [dec3] Queen's Speech. They are presented as a crackdown on illegal immigration, but lawyers say they could be applied to anybody who has ever been outside the UK, even on holiday. The civil rights group Liberty, which analysed clauses from the new Immigration and Citizenship Bill, called them an attempt to introduce compulsory ID cards by the back door.

Under the compromise, the police will need a judge's approval before using the Trojans, even in an emergency. Trojans will carry "Remote Forensic Software" that can search hard drives and send evidence back to investigators without their having to enter the suspect's home.

from the register: Italian president and media baron Silvio Berlusconi said today that he would use his country's imminent presidency of the G8 group to push for an international agreement to "regulate the internet". Speaking to Italian postal workers, Reuters reports Berlusconi said: "The G8 has as its task the regulation of financial markets... I think the next G8 can bring to the table a proposal for a regulation of the internet." Italy's G8 presidency begins on January 1. The role is taken by each of the group's members in rotation. The holder country is responsible for organising and hosting the G8's meetings and setting the agenda. Italy's last G8 presidency in 2001, also under Berlusconi, was marred by riots at the annual meeting in Genoa.

from threat level: The Bush administration on Tuesday will try to convince a federal judge to let stand a law granting retroactive legal immunity to the nation's telecoms, which are accused of transmitting Americans' private communications to the National Security Agency without warrants. At issue in the high-stakes showdown... are the nearly four dozen lawsuits filed by civil liberties groups and class action attorneys against AT&T, Verizon, MCI, Sprint and other carriers who allegedly cooperated with the Bush administration's domestic surveillance program in the years following the Sept. 11 terror attacks. The lawsuits claim the cooperation violated federal wiretapping laws and the Constitution. Playboy bunnies were signing photographs while salesmen pitched a new personal Taser that’s small enough to fit into a woman’s purse, he recalled.

“It was excellent marketing,” Puder told a public inquiry Thursday probing the use of Tasers in B.C. He got a signed photo from a Playboy bunny, which he showed to The Vancouver Sun. It has the Taser company logo on it. He was asked who he wanted it signed to and he said, half-joking, “The Vancouver police board.” ...

“I was shocked, actually, which is why I’m here today,” Puder told the inquiry, pointing out that his late brother, Gil Puder, was a use-of-force trainer with Vancouver police from 1990 to 1993. Puder said he was a concerned citizen and suggested a moratorium should be placed on Taser use until there can be proper testing in Canada.

“Until tested in Canada by Canadian medical practitioners, it should be put on the shelf... We are not the United States,” Puder said. “We have an entirely different model of police and training.”

The Libertarian boost seen in this election, thanks to Paul, needs to go on past November and on into the next presidency... I realize my last article was put up on the Alex Jones Info Wars website and I'll take this opportunity to state I think 9/11 truthers are insane and couldn't be farther from the truth. In my personal opinion I would have no objection to vigilante justice in response to their sign waving events.

Because the website has suffered from a series of periodic outages since the records were posted Monday evening, the following message from Palfrey is being reproduced here:

"I have reason to believe the disk – containing a full set of the telephone records for the 13 year operational history of 'Pamela Martin & Associates' – already has been pirated. Despite our very best intentions to maintain control of the information, our efforts seemingly have been for naught. I am concerned about manipulation of the database with false and misleading information. Even though such falsifications can be refuted in time by comparing an altered copy with the original, my attorney, Mr. Sibley and I fear that in the intervening time period, considerable damage can and will be done to the reputations of individual and entities with no connection to the business. Additionally, the overall validity of the records’ contents will be diminished when one false accusation after another begins to manifest. Therefore, to thwart any possible distorted version and to ensure the integrity of the information, the records – in their entirety – are available for downloading."

from democratic underground/cbs4: Many New Jersey residents watching the Disney Channel Tuesday morning were outraged after the family-friendly programming turned into a pornographic display.

Jennie Sherman still can't believe what happened while she was watching the show "Handy Manny" with her two twin sons.

"We were just sitting here and the screen just froze and then all of a sudden I saw very graphic pornography on the television and I scrambled to get the remote to shut it off," Sherman told WCBS-TV in New York City.

Sherman said she immediately recorded the X-rated graphic video on her DVR. She then e-mailed wcbstv.com to report the shocking news.

"Basically because I said my husband is not going to believe this," she said. "I was in shock, I pressed record and shut the television off."

Comcast spokesman Fred De'Andrea issued a statement regarding the incident:

At around 9:30 Tuesday morning we had an isolated issue in a local New Jersey Facility. We immediately detected the issue and it was corrected promptly...We apologize to any customer who experienced an issue this morning. We are continuing to investigate the root cause of the incident.

Comcast officials also point out this had nothing to do with the Disney Channel.

"If I was in the kitchen and not with them and this had happened, I would hit the roof I think," Sherman said.

Sherman said she contacted customer service at Comcast and they couldn't tell her if others had complained but they did credit her for a month but she said she is still afraid of turning on her television.

"I am definitely worried to put the Disney Channel on again (or) Comcast again," Sherman said.
