media smears of truth movement reaching crescendo

despite recent breakthroughs, the media continues to paint 9/11 truthers & others as dangerous terrorists
media smears of truth movement reaching crescendofrom corbett report: Recent months have seen numerous breakthroughs for the truth movement in the corporate media, from Fox 26's interview with Richard Gage of Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth to 9/11 Press For Truth being aired on local television in Colorado to coverage of this year's Bilderberg conference in major British newspapers. Despite these positive developments, however, primetime TV dramas are continuing to portray those skeptical of the official 9/11 story (a clear majority of the American public according to poll after poll) as deranged terrorists who are likely to commit acts of violence.

video: gop contributing to dangerous 'birther' movement
from raw replay: James Von Brunn, who was charged Thursday with the shooting death of a guard at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., was a “birther,” part of a fringe movement that doesn’t believe that President Obama was born in the United States. Salon’s Joan Walsh joins Rachel Maddow to talk about the danger of the “birther” movement. This video is from MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, broadcast June 11, 2009.

holocaust museum killer had links to german neo-nazis

the tragedy & farce of collective guilt
from freedom in our time: The tenuous, gossamer link of distant association described by Dark Helmet works as a piece of throw-away satirical comedy. Under the doctrine of collective guilt being promoted by our would-be cultural commissars, that relationship would also be sufficient to serve as a "link" connecting Lone Star to the crimes committed by Dark Helmet. Lest it be thought that I'm exaggerating, consider Keith Olbermann's effort to connect Ron Paul - a man devoted to peace and protecting the individual rights of everybody, a man who seems biologically incapable of malice - to James von Brunn, the troubled 88-year-old man accused of carrying out the murderous shooting rampage at the Holocaust Museum. Olbermann, who looks like one of Eugene Levy's SCTV caricatures and (to my disappointment) appears to have the soul of an East German prosecutor, grimly informed his viewing audience that "von Brunn switched his website domain on May 1 to a man who shares a phone number with a woman who was listed as the Michigan coordinator for former presidential candidate Ron Paul." What does that make the actual relationship between von Brunn and Dr. Paul. As Dark Helmet would say: Absolutely nothing.

zbig slams 'conspiratorial view' while noting '53 iran overthrow

from steve watson: During a discussion with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow last Friday, Trilateral Commission co-founder and top Obama advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski spoke of those who question the official version of events on 9/11 in the same context as those who deny the holocaust. The two were analyzing Barack Obama’s Cairo speech, and in particular, his tacit warning regarding 9/11 Truth...

The Orwellian doublespeak on display here is astounding, given that almost in the same breath Brzezinski and Maddow allude to the fact that in the same speech Obama also admitted that the U.S., via the CIA, played a role in the overthrow of a democratically elected Iranian government in 1953, a fact that the criminal intelligence apparatus then attempted to bury and keep secret for decades. How on earth do the two expect to get away with denouncing the American people as “skewed” for not swallowing the official government line on 9/11 when said government has been engaged in such criminal actions for generations? Indeed, Brzezinski himself has even previously warned of false flag attacks being used to kick start wars, yet here he is now comparing such lines of thought to holocaust denial. The total hypocrisy of the man defies belief.

update: open letter to rachel maddow
from 9/11 reports: Ms. Maddow, I saw the bit on MSNBC with your guest Zbigniew Brzezinski... Perhaps you haven’t examined the official myth about 9/11, i.e. that it was accomplished solely by Al Qaeda and Bin Laden. Given that Obama made a claim and didn’t back it up with any facts- while admitting that elements in the US and Britain conspired to overthrow Mossadegh a half century ago - it’s kind of a misnomer to say he “debunked” “9/11 conspiracists”. And given the many lies told by Bush Administration principals about 9/11, and given the 9/11 Commission’s failure to conduct a full and honest investigation- who’s to say what really happened on 9/11? The 9/11 Commission ignored 70% of the 9/11 families’ questions. And your employer, MSNBC, published a report that says 25% of the 9/11 Commission Report, including the sections most relevant to linking 9/11 to al Qaeda and Bin Laden, was based on testimony obtained by torture...

new york times' nsa whistleblower reveals himself

new york times' nsa whistleblower reveals himselffrom threat level: It's been three years since The New York Times first broke the news of the NSA's warrantless wiretapping program, based on information provided by an anonymous source. Today the identity of the Times' Deep Throat is finally revealed to be a 56-year-old former prosecutor in the Justice Department named Thomas Tamm, whose "passion for justice" led him to make a fateful call to the Times one day in 2004 from a phone booth in a Washington, D.C., subway station. The information is reported in a fascinating tale published not by the Times, but by Newsweek.

should whistleblower be prosecuted?
from threat level: The news that a former justice department prosecutor was the original source for the NY Times 2005 story on the NSA's warrantless wiretapping has led to some divided opinions about whether or not Thomas Tamm should be prosecuted for revealing classified information. Some bloggers think Tamm is a patriot and are encouraging readers to contribute to his defense fund... Others feel Tamm should be punished for breaking the law and violating an oath he took to preserve classified information... Some say whistleblowers can have legitimate reasons for revealing information about probable illegal activity by government officials but find fault with Tamm's motives because he admitted to being driven not just by legal issues but by political ones as well - he conceded to Newsweek that he was angry with the Bush administration for zealously pushing prosecutors to seek the death penalty in criminal cases.

whistleblower exposed nsa wiretapping because 'this is crazy'
from raw story: The whistleblower who exposed the Bush administration's warrantless wiretapping program three years ago told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on Monday that he was motivated by a sense that "this is crazy."

spies, lies & fbi, kbr, ss sex, spitzer, byrd, hatfill & more

the big apple's eyeing you
the big apple's eyeing youfrom nypost: They're watching you. The NYPD's plan to have 5,000 cameras trained on every sidewalk crack south of Canal Street has begun in a space-age hub that will be operating by the end of the month. The "Ring of Steel" command center - which will keep 24-hour watch on high-profile targets like the World Trade Center site, the Stock Exchange and the Brooklyn Bridge - is on the 28th floor of a nondescript building at 55 Broadway. Modeled after a highly touted network in London, the $89 million Lower Manhattan Security Initiative will fight crime and terrorism by blanketing the 1.7 square miles with 500 cameras. The feds will pick up $70 million of the cost. Police intend to be using 2,000 cameras by 2009 and 3,000 by 2011. They also hope to tap into images from an additional 2,000 private cameras.

fbi finds most terrorism threat reports baseless
from reuters: The FBI tracked about 108,000 potential terrorism threats or suspicious incidents from mid-2004 to November 2007, but most were found groundless, a Justice Department review found on Friday. The department's office of inspector general gave the figure in an audit of the FBI's terrorism case-tracking system, called Guardian, launched in 2002 after the September 11 attacks. "The FBI determined that the overwhelming majority of the threat information documented in Guardian had no nexus to terrorism. However, as a result of information reported in Guardian the FBI initiated over 600 criminal and terrorism-related investigations from October 2006 to December 2007," the inspector general's report said. The report did not discuss the result of the investigations.

kbr to provide power during emergencies
from upi: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has contracted KBR to provide power during emergency or disaster situations. U.S. company KBR was awarded a $75 million deal from the Army Corps or Engineers for disaster relief services. Under the contract, KBR will supply emergency power for the Western region of the United States in case of a natural or manmade disaster. KBR officials say during an emergency situation they will provide labor, transportation and equipment, among other services, to support power requirements for designated critical public facilities. "This award allows KBR the opportunity to expand our capabilities portfolio in the government and infrastructure business to include emergency response, an area of growth due to recent natural disasters," Bruce Stanski, KBR government and infrastructure president, said in a statement. "We look forward to continuing our relationship with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in this new area and are committed to providing the premier services the Army Corps has come to expect of KBR."

US secret service officer arrested in hooker sting
from wikinews: A United States Secret Service officer has been arrested in Washington, D.C. after allegedly soliciting a prostitute for sex. The prostitute turned out to be an undercover D.C. police officer. The Secret Service officer was using his official Secret Service patrol car, which was marked, and was also in full uniform at the time of the arrest. The unnamed Secret Service officer, a sergeant, was arrested after allegedly agreeing to pay the undercover police officer US$20 to receive oral sex. After agreeing on a price, the undercover officer told the Secret Service officer to drive around the corner, where the sex act would take place. When he stopped his car, he was arrested by police officers.

spitzer won't face charges for scandal
from washington post: Former New York governor Eliot L. Spitzer will not face criminal charges for his role in a prostitution scandal that drove him from office this year, prosecutors announced yesterday. [nov6] Investigators for the FBI and the Internal Revenue Service uncovered no evidence that Spitzer had misused public or campaign money to pay women employed by the Emperors Club VIP, a high-priced New York prostitution ring.

byrd steps down as chair of appropriations committee
from thinkprogress: Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) announced today [nov7] that he will voluntarily step down as chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee on Jan. 6. Byrd, who is the longest-serving senator in American history, said in a statement that he made the decision “only after much personal soul searching, and after being sure of the substantial Democratic pickup of seats in the Senate. I am now confident that stepping aside as chairman will not adversely impact my home state of West Virginia,” he said. Democrats had been hoping that Byrd would “step aside voluntarily” due concerns that he was “not up to the immense challenges he would face in that job.” Byrd will be replaced by Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-HI)

newspapers seek gov't documents in anthrax inquiry
from ap: Two newspapers asked a federal judge Wednesday to make public several documents relating to a former Army scientist who was named as a person of interest in the 2001 anthrax attacks and later exonerated. The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times want the government's search warrants and supporting documents involving Stephen Hatfill, who was eventually cleared in the anthrax attacks and was awarded $5.8 million in a lawsuit accusing the Justice Department of violating his privacy. Normally, search warrants would be sealed for a person who has not been charged or indicted, lawyers said. But the public has a right to know why investigators wanted to search Hatfill's home and on what basis the courts agreed to allow those searches, the newspapers argued in U.S. District Court. "The public has a right to know why he was targeted," said Jeanette Melendez Bead, lawyer for the newspapers.

new rule kicks patriot act foes 'right in the teeth'
from raw story: The Bush administration has been planning since last spring to issue a final burst of federal regulations just before leaving office. It was recently announced that over 90 new regulations would be finalized before November 22 - 60 days prior to the end of Bush's term - making them difficult, though not impossible, for President Obama to reverse. Although many of the regulations have to do with energy and the environment, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow noted on Tuesday that there's also "one that'll kick opponents of the Patriot Act right in the teeth."
