like the stealing of a nation

as prices rise, snoops & snitches work overtimefrom nytimes: To gas prices, foreclosure rates and the cost of rice, add this rising economic indicator: the number of tips to the police from people hoping to collect reward money... with tipsters telling operators they need the money for rent, light bills or baby formula. “For this year, everyone that’s called has pretty much been just looking for money,” said Sgt. Lawrence Beller, who answers Crime Stoppers calls at the Sussex County, N.J., sheriff’s office. “That’s as opposed to the last couple of years, where some people were just sick of the crime and wanting to do something about it.”

US to build vast prison in afghanistanfrom afp: The United States plans to build a vast, new detention camp at its main military base in Afghanistan... "I can confirm there are indeed plans to build a new detention facilty at Bagram airfield," spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Mark Wright told AFP. "And the overall size is expected to be 40 acres." The move came because "our existing theatre facilty is deterioriating," Wright said, referring to the makeshift jail at Bagram that holds alleged extremist militants rounded up in the US "war on terror" launched after the September 11 attacks.

obamessiah brings koolaid to thirsty portland masses70,000+ in downtown portland for obama's visit

but, are these examples of the kind of 'change' you want?

from the oregonian: A word to the wise: Barack Obama is on the move. If you're heading west toward Portland this afternoon, keep your eyes peeled. An ominous black bus, flanked by more than 25 police motorcycles, is headed for Waterfront Park... Rumor has it that Portland rockers The Decemberists will be performing live at Obama's 2:30 appearance. The event is being held at Southwest Columbia Street and Naito Parkway.

taser intl uses playboy bunnies to sell its products

who says there isn’t an intimate connection between sex & violence?
taser intl uses playboy bunnies to sell its productsfrom common dreams: Vancouver businessman Randy Puder was drawn to the booth operated by Taser International at the Consumer Trade Show in Las Vegas last January. Playboy bunnies were signing photographs while salesmen pitched a new personal Taser that’s small enough to fit into a woman’s purse, he recalled.

It was excellent marketing,” Puder told a public inquiry Thursday probing the use of Tasers in B.C. He got a signed photo from a Playboy bunny, which he showed to The Vancouver Sun. It has the Taser company logo on it. He was asked who he wanted it signed to and he said, half-joking, “The Vancouver police board.” ...

I was shocked, actually, which is why I’m here today,” Puder told the inquiry, pointing out that his late brother, Gil Puder, was a use-of-force trainer with Vancouver police from 1990 to 1993. Puder said he was a concerned citizen and suggested a moratorium should be placed on Taser use until there can be proper testing in Canada.

Until tested in Canada by Canadian medical practitioners, it should be put on the shelf... We are not the United States,” Puder said. “We have an entirely different model of police and training.”

pentaganda gen calls for US terrorism against iran

from crooks & liars: Last month on Fox News, Ret. Gen. Thomas McInerney, one of the Pentagon’s propaganda team of military analysts exposed by David Barstow in the NYT, openly called for the US to begin committing “tit-for-tat” terrorist attacks by proxy inside Iran...

"Here’s what I would suggest to you. Number one, we take the National Council for Resistance to Iran off the terrorist list that the Clinton Administration put them on as well as the Mujahedin-e Khalq at the Camp Ashraf in Iraq. Then I would start a tit-for-tat strategy which I wrote up in the Wall Street Journal a year ago: For every EFP that goes off and kills Americans, two go off in Iran. No questions asked. People don’t have to know how it was done. It’s a covert action. They become the most unlucky country in the world.

return of the 'no-work list'

employment verification plan: big brother or big improvement?
return of 'the no-work list'from mcclatchy: For critics, the idea is an Orwellian nightmare: The federal government would begin signing off on every hiring decision made in the United States...

Whether it's regarded as Big Brother or a big improvement, the plan is getting a good vetting on Capitol Hill. It has enormous implications for employers and the Social Security Administration, which would conduct the background checks.

The American Civil Liberties Union, which opposes the plan, says the legislation would create a "no-work list" in the Washington bureaucracy. "Americans should not have to ask their federal government if they have permission to accept a new job," said Caroline Fredrickson, the director of the ACLU's Washington legislative office.

immigration raid jars a small townfrom washington post: Monday's raid on the Agriprocessors plant, in which 389 immigrants were arrested and many held at a cattle exhibit hall, was the Bush administration's largest crackdown on illegal workers at a single site. It has upended this tree-lined community, which calls itself "Hometown to the World." Half of the school system's 600 students were absent Tuesday, including 90 percent of Hispanic children, because their parents were arrested or in hiding... "They don't go after employers. They don't put CEOs in jail," complained the Postville Community Schools superintendent, David Strudthoff, 51, who said the sudden incarceration of more than 10 percent of the town's population of 2,300 "is like a natural disaster - only this one is manmade."

Hedviga Golik, who was born in 1924, had apparently made herself a cup of tea before sitting in her favourite armchair in front of her black and white television.

Croatian police said she was last seen by neighbours in 1966, when she would have been 42 years old... "The cup she had been drinking tea from was still on a table next to the chair she had been sitting in and the house was full of things no one had seen for decades. Nothing had been disturbed for decades, even though there were more than a few cobwebs in there."

'bin laden' message condemns israeli anniversary

'bin laden' message condemns israeli anniversaryfrom guardian: An internet audio message purportedly from Osama bin Laden was released today marking the 60th anniversary of the creation of Israel with a vow to continue the fight against the country and its allies.

The speaker said the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was at the heart of an Islamic battle with the west and an inspiration to the 19 bombers who carried out the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

"We will continue, God permitting, the fight against the Israelis and their allies ... and will not give up a single inch of Palestine as long as there is one true Muslim on earth," he said.

iowa ice: illegal immigrant raid part of fema drill

fema, ice & dhs running roundup psyop until may25...
iowa ice: illegal immigrant raid part of fema drillfrom rogue government: As predicted last week, ICE has begun factory raids of illegal aliens in Iowa. This was not very difficult to predict. The federal government last week leased out the National Cattle Congress fairgrounds in Waterloo, Iowa until May 25th and began moving trailers and generators on location. Reports from the Des Moines Register and the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier indicated that FEMA and ICE, two agencies within the Department of Homeland Security were involved in this secretive operation. Considering the large groups of illegal alien factory workers in the area of the fairgrounds, it wasn’t hard to figure out what was going to happen next. The Department of Homeland Security has now decided to go live with their test FEMA camp operation and are using illegal aliens as live subjects for processing purposes. This is a drill designed to setup a FEMA camp that will be used to process American citizens. Make no mistake about it, this has nothing to do with stopping illegal immigration. Rounding up a few hundred illegal aliens and asking them questions is going to do nothing to resolve the policies that have encouraged and facilitated the illegal alien problem. It does however serve as a fine test run for processing large groups of people through a FEMA camp.

US 'sonic blasters' sold to chinafrom danger room: There was a surprising piece of gear at last month's China International Police Forum, held in Beijing. There, among the rows of law enforcement tech, was an American machine, the Long Range Acoustic Device. It's not something you'd expect to see, because, depending on who you ask, the LRAD is either a "hailer" for signaling people far away - or a sonic blaster. Weapons exports to China are of course illegal, after a law passed in the aftermath of the Tiananmen Square massacre. However, As I report in New Scientist, LRAD is not classed as a weapon.

With Bush's time in office winding down, Israeli observers sound genuinely nostalgic to see him go, and some are already fretting about Israel's future with someone else in the White House. israel’s 60 years of nuclear proliferationfrom jerry mazza: I have not written this article to condemn Israel on its 60th anniversary as a quasi-legal state, quasi to question the UN’s legitimacy to create it, and quasi for Israel’s subsequent actions to ingest and destroy the Palestinians. My aim is to point out Israel’s own hypocrisy regarding Iran’s possible possession of nuclear capability not just for peacetime power. Beyond the Cold War, it is Israel that has historically been edging us into a worldwide nuclear conflagration; and doing so since 2001 with the hegemonic boobs presently running the USA and supporting Israel’s misguided efforts with billions of dollars of aid for arms in the hope that it will keep the Arab world intimidated and give us its oil.
