US 'approaching' insolvency, fix to be 'very painful'

US approaching insolvency, fix to be 'very painful'from reuters: The United States is on a fiscal path towards insolvency and policymakers are at a "tipping point," a Federal Reserve official said on Tuesday. "If we continue down on the path on which the fiscal authorities put us, we will become insolvent, the question is when," Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Richard Fisher said in a question and answer session after delivering a speech at the University of Frankfurt. "The short-term negotiations are very important, I look at this as a tipping point." But he added he was confident in the Americans' ability to take the right decisions and said the country would avoid insolvency. "I think we are at the beginning of the process and it's going to be very painful," he added. Fisher earlier said the US economic recovery is gathering momentum, adding that he personally was extremely vigilant on inflation pressures. Fisher added that the U.S. Federal Reserve had ways to tighten its monetary policy other than interest rates, including by selling treasuries, changing reserves levels and using time deposits.

econocrash updates: competing currencies & scary graphs

video: competing currency being accepted in michigan
from connect mid-michigan: New types of money are popping up across Mid-Michigan and supporters say, it's not counterfeit, but rather a competing currency. Right now, you can buy a meal or visit a chiropractor without using actual U.S. legal tender. They sound like real money and look like real money. But you can't take them to the bank because they're not made at a government mint. They're made at private mints. "I sell three or four every single day and then I get one or two back a week," said Dave Gillie, owner of Gillies Coney Island Restaurant in Genesee Township. Gillie also accepts silver, gold, copper and other precious metals to pay for food. He says, if he wanted to, he could accept marbles. "Do people have to accept dollars or money? No, they don't," Gillie said. "They can accept anything they want or they can refuse to accept anything." He's absolutely right. The U.S. Treasury Department says the Coinage Act of 1965 says "private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash, unless there is a state law which says otherwise."

flight 253 updates: patsies, privacy, lockdowns & more

obama to probe network of moles behind christmas patsy fiasco?
obama to probe network of moles behind christmas patsy fiasco?from webster tarpley: Officials in the Obama White House are considering the possibility that the Christmas day attempt by Nigerian terrorist Umar Farouk Mutallab to blow up an airliner about to land in Detroit was deliberately and intentionally facilitated by unnamed networks inside the US intelligence community. This was the gist of a report by Richard Wolf delivered in this evening's [jan5] edition of cable network MSNBC’s Countdown program, hosted by Keith Olbermann. This report comes on the eve of a special White House interagency conference convoked by Obama to deal with the massive systemic failure of US intelligence in allowing the Yemen alumnus Mutallab to board the Amsterdam to Detroit flight while allegedly carrying a PETN explosive device on his person.

Wolf attributed his account to top officials in the Obama White House. The intentional sabotage of US antiterrorist screening procedures would explain why Mutallab had been able to use his US visa, escape interrogation and special searches, and board his flight, even though he was festooned with every red flag in the annals of airport security. If Wolf’s report is accurate, these Obama officials may be pulling on a thread which could begin to unravel the entire secret structure of illegitimate power which has afflicted this country — in this case, the apparatus which manufactures terrorist incidents for political purposes of mass manipulation, dictatorship, and war.

another christmas arrest uncovered -
same route, same airline, same day, different flight

another christmas arrest uncovered - same route, same airline, same day, different flightfrom the end run: On the day of the Flight 253 incident, reporter Michael Rosenfield of WXYZ in Detroit appeared live on CNN during the evening news and reported that, earlier that day, another passenger was arrested on a different flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. Same route, same airline, same day. This report appears to have been corroborated by a woman who was apparently a passenger on that flight in an on-camera interview; an interview which was even played at least once on CNN on December 25. However, the media subsequently blended this separate incident with the widely-reported “failed bombing” incident. Hence, the many media reports of Mutallab “screaming about Afghanistan” despite the fact that the witnesses actually describe him as being amazingly calm and totally silent. The End Run deconstructs this apparent, suspicious, and convenient misreporting.

explosive reached ireland after failed test
explosive reached ireland after failed testfrom rte news: A quantity of explosive, found in a flat on Dorset Street in Dublin this morning, was brought into Ireland following a failed security operation in Slovakia. The explosive was one of eight pieces of contraband planted by the authorities in the luggage of unsuspecting passengers at Bratislava Airport in Slovakia last weekend as part of a test of security procedures. Seven were detected by airport security, but the eighth - 90g of research development explosive or RDX - was put in the luggage of a Slovakian electrician who lives and works in Dublin. The 49-year-old unwittingly brought the material to Dublin when he returned from Christmas holidays.

joan rivers not allowed on flight due to 'suspicious passport'
from sawfnews: Comic Joan Rivers was barred from getting a flight - because airline officials deemed her passport "suspicious". The acid-tongued star was trying to fly from Costa Rica to Newark airport in New Jersey. But as she tried to board, the 76-year-old was pulled to one side after a Continental Airlines security agent checked her details. Her passport reads: "Joan Rosenberg AKA Joan Rivers." Rosenberg was her late husband's last name. The fashion-loving Rivers said afterwards: "If I were going to make up an alias, I wouldn't pick Rosenberg. I'd pick Jolie or Pitt... I can tell you Donna Karan does not make anything that hides a bomb." She told a US newspaper: "I tried the tears; they didn't work. I tried reasoning. I couldn't bribe because I didn't have any money... I said 'I'm going to have a heart attack over this,' so the woman called the paramedics." She eventually managed to get a flight home the following morning, she says.

military blogger michael yon detained & handcuffed by tsa in seattle airport; says we must stand up to tsa thugsfrom paul joseph watson: A war reporter who was detained, interrogated and handcuffed at Seattle airport for refusing to answer personal questions about his income has warned that Americans need to start standing up to TSA thugs because entering the country is now a more stifling experience than some of the worst police states on the planet.

No country has ever treated me so badly,” Michael Yon wrote in a Facebook message. “Not China. Not Vietnam. Not Afghanistan. Definitely not Singapore or India or Nepal or Germany, not Brunei, not Indonesia, or Malaysia, or Kuwait or Qatar or United Arab Emirates. No county has treated me with the disrespect can that can be expected from our border bullies.”

Yon was taken aside by the TSA and asked a series of questions, many of which seemed to have no bearing on national security. Finally when asked what his personal income was, he refused to answer because he felt it was none of their business. At this point they handcuffed and detained him until he was eventually released by Port Authority police because the TSA had no legitimate grounds to hold him,” reports Blog Critics.

Yon said that his experience was par for the course when entering America and not a manifestation of the Christmas Day attack.

the dollar will be 'utterly destroyed'
from blacklisted news: The dollar will "utterly get destroyed" and become "virtually worthless", said Damon Vickers, chief investment officer of Nine Points Capital Partners. Due to the huge wage disparities between the United States and emerging markets like China, Vickers said that may resolve itself in some type of a global currency crisis.

"If the global currency crisis unfolds, then inevitably you get an alignment of a global world government. A new global currency and a new world order, so we may be moving towards that," he said.

woman imprisoned for selling to saddam was working for cia

woman imprisoned for selling to saddam was working for ciafrom raw story: A Detroit-area businesswoman serving a six-year sentence in federal prison for selling goods to Iraq during the embargo against Saddam Hussein was unwittingly working for the CIA, the woman's supporters say.

According to NBC affiliate WDIV, Dawn Hanna of Rochester Hills, Michigan, was working for a CIA contractor when she arranged for telecommunications equipment to be sent to the Middle East in 2002 and 2003.

The person claiming to be that contractor, Emad Al-Yawer, says that he was working on a CIA plan to sell communications equipment to Saddam Hussein that would be bugged with espionage instruments. The plan was for the agency to locate and kill the Iraqi dictator.

"The whole idea was, once they get to Saddam, send a smart bomb and blow him [to] smithereens," Al-Yawer told WDIV. Al-Yawer's Jordanian company, Advanced Technical Systems, was the partner with whom Hanna worked to deliver the communications equipment.

'red dawn' remake starts shooting in michigan on sep8

mgm to remake 'red dawn' for a post-9/11 world
'red dawn' remake starts shooting in michigan on sep8from wxyz: It's going to be huge! Michigan has lured some impressive projects since passing the film incentives initiative last year, like Gran Torino, Whip It, and Betty Anne Waters. But it appears the state's biggest catch to date is the re-make of Red Dawn. The memorable battle cry will soon be echoing across Michigan's landscape. Producers are also looking for some home grown talent to fill out some roles. You can find out more by emailing reddawnextras@gmail.com. Red Dawn tells the gripping story of how some midwestern teenagers fight to save their hometown from a foreign invasion. MGM's 1984 hit starred Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson, and Jennifer Gray. The cast for the re-make includes Chris Hemsworth, who played George Kirk in the latest Star Trek movie. He'll take on Swayze's role of Jed Eckert, the group's unofficial leader. Eckert's hotheaded younger brother Matt, originally played by Sheen, will be brought back by Josh Peck, best know for the voice of Eddie in the Ice Age movies. And Adrianne Palicki from the Friday Night Lights TV series, will portray Toni, the scrappy character Jennifer Gray first played. Dan Bradley will direct. He was the second unit director on the Bourne Ultimatum and the Bourne Supremacy films. Ken Droz from the Michigan Film Office says the state's film incentives lured MGM here, and so did the setting. Area production companies and filmmakers are already feeling the ripple effect of Red Dawn's pre-production here. MGM will start filming the action film's re-make September 8th.

econocrash: imf, cfr & protestors queue up for conflict

100s queue for low wage retail sales jobs in dublin

regulators shut banks in georgia, michigan, california & idaho
from bloomberg: Regulators seized banks in Georgia, Michigan, California and Idaho with total assets of $2.3 billion, bringing the tally of failures in the U.S. this year to 29, exceeding the total for all of 2008. American Southern Bank of Kennesaw, Georgia; Michigan Heritage Bank in Farmington Hills; and First Bank of Beverly Hills in Calabasas, California, were shut by state agencies. First Bank of Idaho in Ketchum was closed by the Office of Thrift Supervision. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. was named receiver of all four. The seizures will cost the FDIC’s insurance fund a total of $698.4 million, with more than half of that tied to the failure of the California bank. While banks in the other three states are being taken over by institutions in their regions, the FDIC couldn’t find a buyer for First Bank of Beverly Hills, forcing the regulator to assume the company’s $1.5 billion in assets.

protesters, police clash near imf meetings in dc
from afp: Seven people were arrested near the International Monetary Fund's Washington headquarters on Saturday as they tried to stop meetings taking place inside, police said. "Six people were detained for vandalism offenses and a seventh was detained for assaulting a police officer," Washington police spokesman Quentin Peterson told AFP. Two banks were attacked in disturbances that began early on Saturday morning and were aimed at disrupting the spring meetings of the IMF and World Bank. Police did not offer an estimate for the number of people involved in the disturbances, but organizer David Combs of the the Global Justice Action group said protesters numbered 300. Local media put the figure at closer to 100. "The aim of the protests was to express outrage at the IMF's long-standing (habit) of ignoring human rights and environmental concerns," Combs said. Protesters carried banners berating the Bretton Woods institutions and calling for an end to capitalism. They carried placards stating that "Capitalism is Crisis" and shouted slogans calling for the IMF to be shut down, before clashing with police. Law enforcers had earlier announced road closures around the IMF - which lies in central Washington, not far from the White House - until Sunday when meetings are scheduled to conclude. The World Bank on Saturday launched a 55-billion-dollar infrastructure investment program as part of efforts to help developing countries weather the worst global slump in decades.

US fighter jets scrambled to intercept stolen plane

US fighter jets scrambled to intercept stolen planefrom reuters: A pilot stole a small airplane in Canada on Monday and headed south, forcing U.S. military officials to scramble F-16 fighter jets to trail him, before landing on a highway in Missouri and fleeing on foot. The pilot was captured and arrested by Missouri State Troopers a short time after landing the Cessna 172, news reports said. Lt. Commander Gary Ross of the North American Aerospace Defense Command said the plane was not believed to be a terrorist threat nor a threat to civilians. Still, the state capitol in Madison, Wisconsin, was evacuated as a precaution while the plane was in its area.

update: plane joyride into US called suicide attempt
from canadian spectator: A flight student suspected of stealing a plane in Canada and flying erratically across three states in an apparent bid to commit suicide by getting shot down by the U.S. military was described today as a nice kid who didn’t seem unhappy. Adam Leon, 31, was arrested at a convenience store in Ellsinore, Mo., shortly after a pilot landed the single-engine, four-seat Cessna on a rural Missouri road last night following a wild scramble involving U.S. F-16 fighter jets, state police said.

norad: shooting down stolen plane not considered
from ap: The agency charged with defending North American air space never seriously considered shooting down a rogue pilot who flew into U.S. airspace because it quickly determined that he had no hostile intent, a spokesman said Wednesday... Defense officials quickly learned that the pilot was Leon, who was born Yavuz Berke in Turkey before moving to Canada and becoming a naturalized citizen, according to Kucharek. "He didn't threaten population centers and didn't appear to be threatening critical infrastructure," Kucharek said. "And then, you don't want to provoke someone into doing something they weren't going to do in the first place by taking some sort of aggressive posture." Kucharek said the decision to shoot down goes to the president or the secretary of defense. If both are unavailable, a group within NORAD can decide.

1 in 8 US homeowners late paying or in foreclosurefrom reuters: About one in eight U.S. homeowners with mortgages, a record share, ended 2008 behind on their loan payments or in the foreclosure process as job losses intensified a housing crisis spawned by lax lending practices, the Mortgage Bankers Association said on Thursday. With unemployment at a 16-1/2-year high and expected to continue rising until mid- to late 2010, more borrowers will pay late or fall into foreclosure this year, said the group's chief economist. "While California, Florida, Nevada, Arizona and Michigan continue to dominate the delinquency numbers, some of the sharpest increases we saw last quarter in loans 90 days or more delinquent were in Louisiana, New York, Georgia, Texas and Mississippi, signs of the spreading impact of the recession," said Jay Brinkmann.

cnbc analyst: global bank & global currency within 15yrsfrom paul joseph watson: Head of market analysis for Schneider Foreign Exchange Stephen Gallo told CNBC yesterday [feb25] that the financial crisis will lead to the creation of a global central bank and a global single currency within 15 years, echoing the call of top globalists who have exploited the problems they created to push for a new world financial order. Highlighting the significance of the introduction of the Euro, Gallo said that the single currency was “where we are headed globally on a monetary basis over the course of the next 10 to 15 years.” ... As we have highlighted before, the elite have exploited the problem that they created to push for increased centralization and regulation of the world economic system in the pursuit of a de-facto global financial dictatorship.

gay anarchist group storms michigan church service in protest

or, as the catholics put it: leftist perverts launch coordinated
attack on church during sunday service

from nbc25online: Some churches are fighting back after a self-proclaimed gay anarchist group stormed into a Mid-Michigan Church. It happened at Mount Hope Church in Lansing. The Eaton County Sheriff’s office was called in and is investigating. Reports say that protesters were outside the church beating on buckets and using megaphones to shout “Jesus is a homo” as church-goers went in for morning services. According to those reports, half of the protesting group was dressed to blend in with the church-goers and entered the church. Once inside they reportedly pulled fire alarms, handed out pamphlets and yelled at parishioners. They also were said to have stormed the pulpit and held up a large rainbow colored flag that read “It’s Okay To Be Gay! Bash Back”.
