Interview w/ Jon Rappoport on MKULTRA Jazz
Investigative journalist Jon Rappoprt's article, 'US Jazz Musicians Were Drafted Into the CIA’s MKULTRA,' caught my ear so he's joining Media Monarchy for some classic 'Acid Dreams'. Why did Chet Baker, Sonny Rollins, Elvin Jones and so many more great musicians take the 'Lexinton Cure' at the CIA-connected 'Narcotic Farm'? Who was Harris Isbell and what did he do at Lex? And the real question: Why do intelligence agencies use art as a weapon?

US recession longest since wwii; recovery around the corner!
in other news: crumbling bridge for sale
from bbc: The US recession lasted 18 months and was the most prolonged since World War II, a report has concluded. The National Bureau of Economic Research said the recovery began in June 2009, with recession having begun in 2007. Its views carry weight in the US, even though there is usually a lag before it reaches a view, said BBC World Service economics editor Andrew Walker. The organisation's figures take in data beyond simply GDP. Income, employment industrial production and wholesale retail sales also from part of the analysis. The previous longest postwar recessions in 1973-75 and 1981-82 both lasted 16 months, it said.

pearl harbor: 68yrs later, all war still based on deception

A tri-party agreement between Japan, Germany and Italy, executed one year earlier, gave Roosevelt the key he needed to get into Europe through the “back door.” The agreement stipulated that a war against any one of the parties would be considered to be a war against all three.
These facts would still be buried in the dustbin of history but for some sixteen years of work by author Robert Stinnett, uncovering and examining documents under the Freedom of Information Act. His eventual book on the subject is entitled Day of Deceit.

from unemployed sociopath: We can see in this ABC News Special from 1979 what the CIA has been up to, and how they've been corrupted to consider dehumanizing American citizens and the rest of the World as 'normal'. To learn how to weaken and control people they conducted hundreds of 'Naziesque' experiments, no surprise since the CIA was founded by hiring thousands of Nazi's after WWII.

'legendary' newsman walter cronkite, 92, dies at home
...now walter cronkite can truly be
"glad to sit on the right hand of satan"...
from dpa: Iconic news anchor Walter Cronkite, whose journalism shaped US views and policies from World War II to the Vietnam War died Friday at the age of 92, his family said.
Cronkite, who was born in St Joseph, Missouri, in 1916, had been ill for several months with cerebrovascular disease. Among the many paying tribute to him were President Barack Obama and his predecessor George W Bush.
Often called "the most trusted man in America," Cronkite's deliberate reporting and analysis, together with his rare displays of emotion made him a key observer and interpreter of seminal moments in US history including the Kennedy assassination, the civil rights struggle and the moon landing.
Regarded as one of the all time greats of US journalism, Cronkite also played a decisive role in establishing television as a leading news medium and in defining the standards for news anchors during his stint as anchor at CBS News from 1962 to 1981.
Obama called him "a voice of certainty in an uncertain world... For decades, Walter Cronkite was the most trusted voice in America. His rich baritone reached millions of living rooms every night," said Obama. "He invited us to believe in him, and he never let us down."
"Walter Cronkite was an icon of American journalism who shaped his profession in countless ways during his decades on the air. Tonight, his family is in our thoughts and prayers," Bush said.
"It is impossible to imagine CBS News, journalism or indeed America without Walter Cronkite," Sean McManus, president of CBS News, said in a statement. "More than just the best and most trusted anchor in history, he guided America through our crises, tragedies and also our victories and greatest moments."
Cronkite established his legendary reputation with his marathon coverage of the assassination of president John F Kennedy in 1963. His sympathetic reporting of the civil rights struggle was key in winning over American public opinion, while his conclusion that the Vietnam War was unwinnable in 1968 eroded the support of middle America for the controversial conflict. "If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost Middle America," said President Lyndon Johnson after Cronkite concluded that the war could not be won.
Katie Couric, the current anchor of the CBS Evening News, said Cronkite was so trusted "because he exhibited a sense of purpose and compassion, night after night. He was the personification of excellence."
walter cronkite: most trusted asset of operation mockingbird
from kurt nimmo: “It is impossible to imagine CBS News, journalism or indeed America without Walter Cronkite,” said Sean McManus, president of CBS News, on the passing on Walter Cronkite. “More than just the best and most trusted anchor in history, he guided America through our crises, tragedies and also our victories and greatest moments.”
I wonder if Mr. McManus knew the real Cronkite — Cronkite the a former intelligence officer who was lured away from his UPI Moscow desk by Operation Mockingbird’s Phil Graham.
Of course he did. Because the corporate media, at least at the level Walter Cronkite occupied, is rife with spooks, government agents, and disinfo operatives. The CIA has “important assets” inside every major news publication in the country, a fact established by numerous FOIA documents. A rare glimpse was also provided by Frank Church’s committee in the mid-70s.
Some of the journalists working the CIA’s side of the street “were Pulitzer Prize winners, distinguished reporters who considered themselves ambassadors-without-portfolio for their country,” Carl Bernstein wrote in an article published in Rolling Stone in October, 1977. “Most were less exalted: foreign correspondents who found that their association with the Agency helped their work; stringers and freelancers who were as interested it the derring-do of the spy business as in filing articles, and, the smallest category, full-time CIA employees masquerading as journalists abroad.”
“It was not until 1982 that the Agency openly admitted that reporters on the CIA payroll have acted as case officers to agents in the field,” writes Alex Constantine in The Depraved Spies and Moguls of the CIA’s Operation MOCKINGBIRD. “Most consumers of the corporate media were — and are — unaware of the effect that the salting of public opinion has on their own beliefs... In the 1950s, outlays for global propaganda climbed to a full third of the CIA’s covert operations budget. Some 3, 000 salaried and contract CIA employees were eventually engaged in propaganda efforts. The cost of disinforming the world cost American taxpayers an estimated $265 million a year by 1978, a budget larger than the combined expenditures of Reuters, UPI and the AP news syndicates.”
Cronkite was a trusted and valued part of that huge mass propaganda effort.

lifestyles of the rich & nazi: chanel, hearst & art auctions
chanel & the nazis: what the films won't tell you
from times online: Why is Coco Chanel getting a free pass on her collaboration with the Nazis? Her past was deeply compromised... As we gear up for cultural Chanel-mania this summer with two hagiographic films about the designer, a new biography and the sound of slavering from glossy magazines, it is worth pausing to investigate Coco Chanel's wholesale - and retail - involvement with the Nazis. The world's greatest fashionista may have rescued women from the corset, but she did not have a good war. When shoppers swoon over the iconic quilted handbag with the CC logo, most are unaware that Chanel once went to Berlin to plot with Walter Schellenberg, who wore his Waffen SS logo as Hitler's chief of foreign intelligence. Perhaps Chanel-lovers also have no idea that she tried to wrest control of her perfume manufacturing from a Jewish family, taking advantage of pro-Aryan laws. Or that she was arrested for war crimes - and then mysteriously released.
Previously, I'd seen it mentioned that Chanel had survived the war rather comfortably at the Paris Ritz in the arms of a Nazi officer, Hans Gunther von Dincklage, and then gone into exile in Switzerland with him, but a few hours spent in the library revealed that she was far more deeply involved with the Germans than that. There was even a (somewhat ridiculous) Nazi plot, using Chanel as bait, called “Operation Modelhut”. None of this will be discussed, of course, in two upcoming biographical films: Coco Avant Chanel, starring Audrey Tautou, and Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky, with Anna Mouglalis, about Chanel's relationship with the Russian composer. Nor was it detailed in a Chanel television mini-series with Shirley MacLaine last year, or in the 1981 film Chanel Solitaire. With commercial good sense, all films avoid the German invasion of Paris and Chanel's collaboration. It's a case of “Don't Mention The War!”
hitler's painting of black cat to be auctioned
from telegraph: The piece depicts a black cat sitting up on its haunches, looking upwards, and bears the fascist leader's initial's – A.H. It is one of an array of 13 watercolours which were recently found, forgotten in a collector's garage. They are early examples of Hitler's work and were painted during his twenties, when he was a struggling artist. The pieces are expected to attract great interest and could fetch thousands of pounds at auction on April 23.
sale of nazi housewife magazines
from bbc: A collection of the official women's magazine of the Nazis could fetch up to £700 when it goes up for sale at an auction next week. The magazine, called NS Frauen Warte, aimed at the German housewife during World War II, gives recipes, knitting patterns and other household tips. Several of the magazines will feature in a lot being put up for sale by Shropshire auctioneers Mullock's. Experts said the collection could fetch between £500 and £700. Richard Westwood-Brookes, from Mullock's, said it was "everything you'd expect a woman's magazine to have and more... [You see] nice articles about what women are doing in their groups and things like that... Then you turn the page and then you find there [a] banner-waving Nazi soldier with a big headline saying 'would you have your daughter marry a Jewish man?'" It was a fortnightly publication and ran from 1935 to 1945, Mr Westwood-Brookes added. He said the publication's idea was to provide a "subtle stream of propaganda information to women". Mullock's also has a collection of boys' magazines from the 1930s, which are "fairly unsubtle" and include "lots of battle scenes", Mr Westwood-Brookes said. He expects those to make about £200. Mr Westwood-Brookes said: "The way in which the propaganda machine worked, it went to everybody right the way down to almost babes in arms."

donald duck & the taxes you pay to international banksters
from kurt nimmo: It’s that time again, time to pay the bankers what is owed at gunpoint. Back in the day, when fear of the IRS was not as prevalent as it is today, the government employed Hollywood propaganda to make the plebs feel good about forking over their hard-won earnings. In the cartoon here, produced in 1943 during the Second World War, Donald Duck is pressed into service to make Americans feel good about paying taxes. Donald’s cartoon was rolled out the same year Milton Friedman, a Treasury Department economist at the time, came up with the idea of imposing a withholding tax.
Hollywood no longer needs to make cartoons to convince us paying taxes to international bankers is the “patriotic” thing to do. Millions of people accept this federally enforced fleecing operation with a mixture of resignation and fear. In fact, decades of propaganda have reduced many Americans to the point where they believe forking over a huge share of their earnings is a positive thing. Of course, they have no idea the money is going to the bankers. Just less than half of U.S. residents asked say the amount of federal income taxes they pay is 'about right,' a Gallup Poll reported on April 8, according to United Press International. Donald Duck’s services are no longer required.

new year's clearinghouse
end of the year or end of the world (as we know it)?
from global research: [A]n end-of-year essay of sorts is in order, especially so given the bumpy ride capitalism has bestowed on us this past twelve months. And the portents for 2009 look to be even worse as capitalism, desperate to shed over-valued assets, descends into the abyss. Look at it this way: after the Crash of ‘29 and the launch of the New Deal, it took some six years to engineer the outbreak of WWII, the surefire way of literally burning up surplus capital in awesome quantities. And if history has any lessons for us, some equivalent global conflagration is now in order. However, is this possible under these new circumstances and over what timescale can such a capitalist catastrophe be engineered?

patton assassinated to silence his criticism of allied war leaders

The death of General Patton in December 1945, is one of the enduring mysteries of the war era. Although he had suffered serious injuries in a car crash in Manheim, he was thought to be recovering and was on the verge of flying home.
But after a decade-long investigation, military historian Robert Wilcox claims that OSS head General "Wild Bill" Donovan ordered a highly decorated marksman called Douglas Bazata to silence Patton, who gloried in the nickname "Old Blood and Guts".
His book, "Target Patton", contains interviews with Mr Bazata, who died in 1999, and extracts from his diaries, detailing how he staged the car crash by getting a troop truck to plough into Patton's Cadillac and then shot the general with a low-velocity projectile, which broke his neck while his fellow passengers escaped without a scratch.
Mr Bazata also suggested that when Patton began to recover from his injuries, US officials turned a blind eye as agents of the NKVD, the forerunner of the KGB, poisoned the general.
Mr Wilcox told The Sunday Telegraph that when he spoke to Mr Bazata: "He was struggling with himself, all these killings he had done. He confessed to me that he had caused the accident, that he was ordered to do so by Wild Bill Donovan.

from nytimes: It has remained one of World War II’s most enduring mysteries, one that resonated decades later after Sept. 11: Who in Washington knew what and when before the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941?
Specifically, who heard or saw a transcript of a Tokyo shortwave radio news broadcast that was interrupted by a prearranged coded weather report? The weather bulletin signaled Japanese diplomats around the world to destroy confidential documents and codes because war with the United States, the Soviet Union or Britain was beginning.
In testimony for government inquiries, witnesses said that the “winds execute” message was intercepted as early as Dec. 4, three days before the attack.
But after analyzing American and foreign intelligence sources and decrypted cables, historians for the National Security Agency concluded in a documentary history released last week that whatever other warnings reached Washington about the attack, the “winds execute” message was not one of them.
A Japanese message intercepted and decoded on Nov. 19, 1941, at an American monitoring station on Bainbridge Island, in Washington State, appeared to lay out the “winds execute” situation. If diplomatic relations were “in danger” with one of three countries, a coded phrase would be repeated as a special weather bulletin twice in the middle and twice at the end of the daily Japanese-language news broadcast.
“East wind rain” would mean the United States; “north wind cloudy,” the Soviet Union; and “west wind clear,” Britain.
In the history, “West Wind Clear,” published by the agency’s Center for Cryptologic History, the authors, Robert J. Hanyok and the late David Mowry, attribute accounts of the message being broadcast to the flawed or fabricated memory of some witnesses, perhaps to deflect culpability from other officials for the United States’ insufficient readiness for war.

breaking the silence of a secret nazi pow camp in virginia

Soldiers at the site also prepared special "care packages" for American POWs that they sent overseas. They included maps, radios and other escape tools.
Many of the camp's records were destroyed right after the war, and those who worked there were sworn to secrecy. Many veterans never spoke about it, even to family and friends, although the operation has been gradually declassified over the past two decades.
The National Park Service, which now runs Fort Hunt Park, has been trying to piece together the story of the interrogation facility — code-named P.O. Box 1142 during the war.

rule by fear or rule by law?
from san francisco chronicle: Since 9/11, and seemingly without the notice of most Americans, the federal government has assumed the authority to institute martial law, arrest a wide swath of dissidents (citizen and noncitizen alike), and detain people without legal or constitutional recourse in the event of "an emergency influx of immigrants in the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs." ... What could the government be contemplating that leads it to make contingency plans to detain without recourse millions of its own citizens?
