from nytimes: When “The Shining” was released in 1980, many viewers, including the critic Pauline Kael, left theaters mystified by what they had just seen... Three decades on, scholars and fans are still trying to decipher this puzzle of a film directed by Stanley Kubrick... “Room 237,” the first full-length documentary by the director Rodney Ascher, examines several of the most intriguing of these theories. It’s really about the Holocaust, one interviewee says, and Mr. Kubrick’s inability to address the horrors of the Final Solution on film. No, it’s about a different genocide, that of American Indians, another says, pointing to all the tribal-theme items adorning the Overlook Hotel’s walls. A third claims it’s really Kubrick’s veiled confession that he helped NASA fake the Apollo Moon landings. The documentary’s biggest leap of faith comes with Jay Weidner, who posits that Mr. Kubrick helped NASA fake the Apollo Moon landings, then used “The Shining” to both confess his involvement — and brag about it. Mr. Weidner is at work on a DVD about the Kubrick-Apollo connection, his second, and cites as evidence a sweater worn by Danny with “Apollo 11” on it, and the hexagonal design on the hotel hallway carpet pattern, which he argues is a dead ringer for the aerial view of the Apollo launching pad. “The entire substory of ‘The Shining,’ ” Mr. Weidner said in an interview, “is the story of Kubrick making the Apollo footage and then trying to hide it from his wife, and then her finding out about it.”

ground zero: no rushin' to the moon
please donate to zero point radio & ground zero media!
from clyde lewis: I always shake my head and wonder why people don’t see the fraud for what it is. I was once told that we didn’t land on the moon and I said that was just a lie and that we did go. My heart wants to believe in these romanticized fantasies cooked up in government think tanks. Now I can see there really is no reason to be rushing to the moon now. We have some cooked-up hoax of climate change to contend with. It is just another boondoggle to feed money into a costly war machine. When I complain about the budget cutting for the moon projects people who are big Obama supporters say “Been there done that.” I know better. We have been nowhere and have done nothing.

william safire, columnist & nixon speechwriter, dies at 79
from ap: William Safire, the conservative columnist and word warrior who feared no politician or corner of the English language, died Sunday. He was 79. The Pulitzer Prize winner died at a hospice in Rockville, Md. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer, family friend Martin Tolchin said.Safire spent more than 30 years writing on the Op-Ed page of The New York Times. In his "On Language" column in The New York Times Magazine and more than a dozen books, Safire traced the origins of words and everyday phrases such as "straw man," "under the bus" and "the proof is in the pudding." ...
Safire penned more than 3,000 columns, aggressively defending civil liberties and Israel while tangling with political figures. Bill Clinton famously wanted to punch the curmudgeonly columnist in the nose after Safire called his wife "a congenital liar." ...
As a speechwriter in the Nixon White House, Safire penned Vice President Spiro Agnew's famous phrase, "nattering nabobs of negativism," a tongue-in-cheek alliteration that Safire claimed was directed not at the press but at Vietnam defeatists.

spacewalk #2 unfolds on 40th moon anniversary
from ap: The astronauts aboard the shuttle-station complex are celebrating the 40th anniversary of man's first moon landing with their own spacewalk. Late Monday morning, David Wolf and Thomas Marshburn ventured out to hook spare parts to the international space station. It is the second spacewalk in three days, and it's taking place 40 years to the day that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon. "How cool," is how one shuttle astronaut described it. The space station crew, meanwhile, is working on a broken toilet that malfunctioned Sunday. For the time being, the 13 astronauts are lining up at the two good toilets, one on the station and one on Endeavour. NASA says it's not yet a serious problem.update: americans remember the moon landing by researching apollo 11 hoax theories*

'legendary' newsman walter cronkite, 92, dies at home
...now walter cronkite can truly be
"glad to sit on the right hand of satan"...
from dpa: Iconic news anchor Walter Cronkite, whose journalism shaped US views and policies from World War II to the Vietnam War died Friday at the age of 92, his family said.
Cronkite, who was born in St Joseph, Missouri, in 1916, had been ill for several months with cerebrovascular disease. Among the many paying tribute to him were President Barack Obama and his predecessor George W Bush.
Often called "the most trusted man in America," Cronkite's deliberate reporting and analysis, together with his rare displays of emotion made him a key observer and interpreter of seminal moments in US history including the Kennedy assassination, the civil rights struggle and the moon landing.
Regarded as one of the all time greats of US journalism, Cronkite also played a decisive role in establishing television as a leading news medium and in defining the standards for news anchors during his stint as anchor at CBS News from 1962 to 1981.
Obama called him "a voice of certainty in an uncertain world... For decades, Walter Cronkite was the most trusted voice in America. His rich baritone reached millions of living rooms every night," said Obama. "He invited us to believe in him, and he never let us down."
"Walter Cronkite was an icon of American journalism who shaped his profession in countless ways during his decades on the air. Tonight, his family is in our thoughts and prayers," Bush said.
"It is impossible to imagine CBS News, journalism or indeed America without Walter Cronkite," Sean McManus, president of CBS News, said in a statement. "More than just the best and most trusted anchor in history, he guided America through our crises, tragedies and also our victories and greatest moments."
Cronkite established his legendary reputation with his marathon coverage of the assassination of president John F Kennedy in 1963. His sympathetic reporting of the civil rights struggle was key in winning over American public opinion, while his conclusion that the Vietnam War was unwinnable in 1968 eroded the support of middle America for the controversial conflict. "If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost Middle America," said President Lyndon Johnson after Cronkite concluded that the war could not be won.
Katie Couric, the current anchor of the CBS Evening News, said Cronkite was so trusted "because he exhibited a sense of purpose and compassion, night after night. He was the personification of excellence."
walter cronkite: most trusted asset of operation mockingbird
from kurt nimmo: “It is impossible to imagine CBS News, journalism or indeed America without Walter Cronkite,” said Sean McManus, president of CBS News, on the passing on Walter Cronkite. “More than just the best and most trusted anchor in history, he guided America through our crises, tragedies and also our victories and greatest moments.”
I wonder if Mr. McManus knew the real Cronkite — Cronkite the a former intelligence officer who was lured away from his UPI Moscow desk by Operation Mockingbird’s Phil Graham.
Of course he did. Because the corporate media, at least at the level Walter Cronkite occupied, is rife with spooks, government agents, and disinfo operatives. The CIA has “important assets” inside every major news publication in the country, a fact established by numerous FOIA documents. A rare glimpse was also provided by Frank Church’s committee in the mid-70s.
Some of the journalists working the CIA’s side of the street “were Pulitzer Prize winners, distinguished reporters who considered themselves ambassadors-without-portfolio for their country,” Carl Bernstein wrote in an article published in Rolling Stone in October, 1977. “Most were less exalted: foreign correspondents who found that their association with the Agency helped their work; stringers and freelancers who were as interested it the derring-do of the spy business as in filing articles, and, the smallest category, full-time CIA employees masquerading as journalists abroad.”
“It was not until 1982 that the Agency openly admitted that reporters on the CIA payroll have acted as case officers to agents in the field,” writes Alex Constantine in The Depraved Spies and Moguls of the CIA’s Operation MOCKINGBIRD. “Most consumers of the corporate media were — and are — unaware of the effect that the salting of public opinion has on their own beliefs... In the 1950s, outlays for global propaganda climbed to a full third of the CIA’s covert operations budget. Some 3, 000 salaried and contract CIA employees were eventually engaged in propaganda efforts. The cost of disinforming the world cost American taxpayers an estimated $265 million a year by 1978, a budget larger than the combined expenditures of Reuters, UPI and the AP news syndicates.”
Cronkite was a trusted and valued part of that huge mass propaganda effort.

cyber/space\war: attacks & anniversaries
world wide wiretap: cyber attacks traced to the uk & US
from threat level: International fingerpointing in the recent cyberattacks against U.S. and South Korean web sites has widened to include the UK and U.S., as researchers examining the attacks trace them to a server in the United Kingdom. But the UK company that owns the server says it, in turn, traced the attacks to a VPN connection originating in Miami, Florida. With hawks in Congress and the press urging President Obama to launch an all-out cyber war in retaliation for the website outages, things are looking bad for the Sunshine State. Though it should be noted that the Miami connection was likely just another proxy used by the hacker, who could be based in the U.S. or anywhere else. Researchers at Bkis Security in Hanoi, who reported findings about the UK server on their company’s blog, say that the denial-of-service attacks that struck more than three dozen government and commercial sites last week were launched from more than 166,000 computers in 74 countries controlled by a server in the UK. The IP range for the server is 195.90.118.xxx, which is registered to Global Digital Broadcast, which streams digital TV content from Latin America to consumers. A company representative was unavailable for comment. But in a July 14 press release, the company indicated that it had traced the attacks to a VPN connection from Miami controlled by Digital Latin America, a Buenos Aires-based company that provides technical services to providers of digital content.

internet attack propaganda increases as cyber bill approaches
from kurt nimmo: Earlier this week South Korean intelligence (a creation of U.S. military intelligence) blamed the enfeebled Stalinist regime in North Korea for a series of cyber attacks on the U.S. government and commercial websites. As numerous observers have noted since the attacks, it is unlikely North Korea was behind the attacks. “Some analysts have questioned the North’s involvement, saying it may be the work of industrial spies or pranksters,” reports Reuters.
Instead of North Korea, the Korea Communications Commission now claims the original attacks were based in Germany, Austria, Georgia, the United States and South Korea. The location of the hackers behind the attacks is still unknown, according to the KCC.
The cyber attacks will now enter a new phase by attacking personal computers and wiping out hard disks, South Korea claims. South Korean web security firm Ahnlab, which has closely examined the attacks, said the new phase would target data on tens of thousands of infected personal computers. Ahnlab sells antivirus software, online security solutions, and network security appliances such as firewalls.
The new alleged threat and accompanying propaganda comes as Senate Commerce Chairman John (Jay) Rockefeller prepares for a July committee vote on cybersecurity legislation he introduced in April with Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine. One of the bill’s most controversial provisions would give the president the power to effectively shut off the Internet during a cyber crisis similar to the one now threatening PCs, according to South Korea and its U.S. created intelligence agency.

obama would endanger privacy with nsa cyber security plan
from latimes: Cyber security is a real issue, as evidenced by the virus behind July 4 cyber attacks that hobbled government and business websites in the United States and South Korea. It originated from Internet provider addresses in 16 countries and targeted, among others, the White House and the New York Stock Exchange. Unfortunately, the Obama administration has chosen to combat it in a move that runs counter to its pledge to be transparent. The administration reportedly is proceeding with a Bush-era plan to use the National Security Agency to screen government computer traffic on private-sector networks. AT&T is slated to be the likely test site. This classified pilot program, dubbed "Einstein 3," is developed but not yet rolled out. It takes two offenders from President Bush's contentious secret surveillance program and puts them in charge of scrutinizing all Internet traffic going to or from federal government agencies. Despite its name, the Einstein 3 program is more genie than genius -- an omnipotent force (run by the NSA via AT&T's "secret rooms") that does the government's bidding - spying. The last time around, this sort of scheme was known as the "special access" program - "special" being code for "unconstitutional."

clyde lewis & the ground zero lounge - june 2009
here are the latest episodes from the ground zero lounge...
download june2009 archive [210mb ZIP]
Recorded every Monday evening in front of a live audience at Dante's Inferno in Portland Oregon, the Ground Zero Lounge features Clyde Lewis in this audience participation discussion of current events as they relate to the paranormal.
IN MEMORY OF THE AMERICAN COLD CASE
In this outing Clyde Lewis demonstrates that America has a plethora of cold case crimes that need to be re-opened and the criminals need to be tried for treason. Barack Obama stood in the hall of records and endorsed Preventative jailing of suspected terrorists. Maybe we should look at the Project for the New American Century as pretext for the crimes of 9/11. The Dystopic Nightmare that America finds itself in today and each day brings new assaults on Freedom and Sanity. The framework for total control of the citizenry, the economy and the media is being built upon in a relentless aggrandizement of Governmental power and perpetual war. Clyde Lewis points out that the despotic empire that we have now was built on little crimes, that grew into bigger crimes, that led to war crimes in Vietnam, perpetual war with the war on terror, and the eventual police state New World Order.
SHADOW DANCING WITH THE ULTRA CRUEL
Why is Dick Cheney coming out of the shadows taunting us about terror, torture, and incompetence within the Obama administration? It is because Cheney is part of the “Shadow Government,” so says Clyde Lewis in this outing of the Ground Zero Lounge. Obama still holds sway over the majority of the bewildered herd on the basis of the strength of the cult of personality alone. Apart from that, we need to now understand why we are not seeing Dick Cheney backing off. The reason we are still seeing no justice against torture, the escalation of wars, the failure to reign in the police state and the failure to hold accountable the war criminals is because it is becoming quite obvious that we are still in the stages of transition and the continuity of government. While Obama puts a confident smiley face on Imperialism – It is apparent that we are still under the control of the SHADOW GOVERNMENT which has a number of extremists at the helm ready to go rogue. Cheney is the worst of them all. Find out why and what his history reveals by listening to this vital Ground Zero Lounge.
THE MYSTERY AND MADNESS OF WEIRD WAR 4
There is a war brewing. Some will call it world war 3, Clyde Lewis calls it “Weird war 4” a war that will be far darker and apocalyptic than we can even imagine. We are closer now to a world war because loosely defined there needs to be a military conflict spanning more than 2 continents, in which at least 20 major countries participate in an attack against a common enemy. So all we need is Israel to start attacking Palestine, North Korea attacks South Korea or the US, or China invading Taiwan and we will have the Final weird war. Not only that but prophetic insight and the religious warnings from Muslims and Christians dictate that we might be in the first 1290 days of the unstable peace and the indications of the false prophet preparing the way for an Antichrist. Welcome to the Apocalypse where it is business as usual and business is good.
FAMILY TRADITION: FATHER FROM THE TRUTH
So anyone care to figure out why Barack Obama’s life history is completely off limits to U.S. Citizens? The Left wing news programs tell you that the nosy right wing wants to insist on knowing where Obama was born. They are being called “birthers.” However the media is lying again. Clyde Lewis demonstrates that the birther movement has its roots in the LEFT WING where Clinton supporters hell bent on foiling an Obama White House exposed the “birth certificate” scandal. Still, there is more to the story than just a forged birth certificate. Obama seems to have a “dark father” or a group of “dark fathers” pointing him in the direction of state socialism. Find out the scandalous Obama Family tradition and the Negro tradition that is also in the backgrounds of several Presidents. Obama is not the only Half blood prince that has been in charge of the United States. One drop of blood makes you black? One sperm from many possible candidates gave us the perfect president? The story is full of holes.
LUNATIC CRINGE
NASA is an acronym for NEVER A STRAIGHT ANSWER and once again Clyde Lewis exposes the lies about the LCROSS mission and its hidden agenda for a preplanned military experiment to explode a projectile on the moon. The space race is all a lie. NASA has locked up information on MARS and claims they are ready to go back to the moon. If this is so, then why are many programs being cut dealing with the past moon missions? How is it that missing videos from the first moon landing miraculously return on the anniversary of the first alleged moon landing? The space program is one big lie to cover up the militarization of space and the fueling of the Military industrial complex. WE WILL NEVER GO TO THE MOON! WE WILL NEVER GET A STRAIGHT STORY ABOUT LIFE ON MARS. Dream on.

walter cronkite not expected to recover, family says...
but, walter cronkite was there
from twilight language: Walter Cronkite covered many mysteries and disasters during his lifetime. His Dutch family's surname originally was Krankheyt, which intriguingly means "illness." Growing up, Cronkite was a member of the Houston chapter of DeMolay, a Masonic fraternal organization for boys. Cronkite was one of eight journalists selected by the U.S. Army Air Forces to fly bombing raids over Germany in a B-17 Flying Fortress. He also landed in a glider with the 101st Airborne in Operation Market-Garden and covered the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he covered the Nuremberg trials, and served as the United Press main reporter in Moscow for two years. Some of the historic events that were entwined with Cronkite's CBS Evening News broadcast life (1962–81) include the Dallas-based JFK assassination of 1963, the Dexter, Michigan UFO series of 1966, the Memphis-based MLK assassination in 1968, and the lunar landing of 1969.

from khou: In April, 2008, Roland Carnaby led Houston Police on a 122 mile-per-hour chase that ended in the Galleria, all the while claiming to be a CIA agent. When he finally pulled over, police shot and killed him after he reached for something shiny. Carnaby’s widow, Susan, has filed a civil suit against the city in federal court and, in documents reviewed by 11 News, claims Carnaby was in fact working for the CIA. “The FBI and the CIA regularly fail to disclose the truth to the Houston Police Department,” one court filing said. In another, Carnaby’s attorney says he plans to call a former Secret Service agent to testify “with respect to Mr. Carnaby’s work on behalf of the Secret Service and other federal agencies as a contract informant and operative.” Randall Kallinen, Carnaby’s attorney, says he definitely was a CIA agent.

from the fbi vault: the complete saddam interviews
from raw story: The National Security Archive has made public the complete set of formal and informal interviews carried out by the FBI with Saddam Hussein following his capture in Iraq in late 2003. RAW STORY reported last week on the emergence of documents that showed the Bush administration's "enhanced interrogation techniques" were not needed to get Saddam to talk - instead, the FBI chose to build a rapport with the ex-dictator, a strategy that resulted in Saddam eventually opening up to his interrogators. Now, the National Security Archive has released the FBI's records of 20 interviews and four informal discussions between agents and Saddam, which took place between February and June of 2004 in the detention cell at Baghdad International Airport where Saddam was held. In the documents, "Saddam denied any connections to the 'zealot' Osama bin Laden, cited North Korea as his most likely ally in a crunch, and shared President George W. Bush's hostility towards the 'fanatic' Iranian mullahs," the archive's press release states.

cyber/space\war: lost tapes, underground labs & more moon memes
nasa conveniently finds missing moon landing tapes
a few weeks before anniversary! what are the odds?
from express.co.uk: Ecstatic space officials at NASA could be about to unveil one of their most stunning discoveries for 40 years - new and amazingly clear footage of the first moon landing. The release of the new images next month could be one of the most talked about events of the summer. The television images the world has been used to seeing of the historic moment when Neil Armstrong descended down a ladder onto the moon’s surface in 1969 is grainy, blurry and dark. The following scenes, in which the astronauts move around the lunar lander, are so murky it is difficult to make out exactly what is going on, causing conspiracy theorists to claim the entire Apollo 11 mission was an elaborate fraud.
However, viewers have only ever seen such poor quality footage because the original analogue tapes containing the pictures beamed direct from the lunar surface were lost almost as soon as they were recorded. Instead, a poor quality copy made from a 16mm camera pointing at a heavily compressed image on a black and white TV screen has been the only record of the event. The Sunday Express can now reveal that the missing tapes containing the original high quality images have been found. If the visual data can be retrieved, Nasa is set to reveal them to the world as a key plank of celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the landings next month. The tapes show in much more detail than almost anyone has previously seen the surface of the moon beneath the patriotic symbol of the US flag. Crucially, they could once and for all dispel 40 years of wild conspiracy theories.

work begins on world's deepest underground lab
from ap: Far below the Black Hills of South Dakota, crews are building the world's deepest underground science lab at a depth equivalent to more than six Empire State buildings - a place uniquely suited to scientists' quest for mysterious particles known as dark matter. Scientists, politicians and other officials gathered Monday for a groundbreaking of sorts at a lab 4,850 foot below the surface of an old gold mine that was once the site of Nobel Prize-winning physics research. The site is ideal for experiments because its location is largely shielded from cosmic rays that could interfere with efforts to prove the existence of dark matter, which is thought to make up nearly a quarter of the mass of the universe.

uk ministry of defence blocks wikileaks
from guardian: The Ministry of Defence is trying to block all internet access to the whistleblowing site Wikileaks from thousands of its own computers after discovering that dissidents have been using it to leak copies of British military manuals. Newly obtained MoD emails reveal alarm over the discovery that Wikileaks is freely publishing manuals that are used by patrols in Iraq. One email says: "There are thousands of things on here, I literally mean thousands. Not just UK MoD but other places as well. Everything I clicked on to do with MoD was 'restricted' ... It is huge." Dismay was sparked by the discovery that Wikileaks had posted copies of a 2007 manual on UK tactics for Iraq and Afghanistan, and a handbook on Istar (intelligence surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance) on its website.

US cyber command: 404 error, mission not (yet) found
from danger room: Defense Secretary Robert Gates ordered the military to start setting up a new “U.S. Cyber Command.” It’s a move that’s been discussed in defense circles for more than a year. But despite the announcement — and despite the lengthy debate – no one in the military-industrial complex seems all that sure what this new fighting force is supposed to do, exactly. Officially, the Pentagon still has a few months to figure things out. Gates told his troops in a Tuesday memo that they have until September 1st to come up with an “implementation plan” for the new command. But there’s a ton to figure out in the next ten weeks. As Gates notes, that plan will have to “delineate USCYBERCOM’s mission, roles and responsibilities,” detail the command’s “minimum requirements” to get up and running, and sort out its “relationships” with the rest of the military – and the rest of the government. In other words, just about everything.

obama orders review of nasa plan to return to moon
from reuters: The Obama administration has ordered a top-level review of the U.S. human spaceflight program that has been focused on returning astronauts to the moon by 2020, officials said on Thursday. Former Lockheed Martin Chairman and Chief Executive Norm Augustine will head a blue-ribbon panel charged with assessing NASA's progress on a space transportation system to replace the retiring space shuttle fleet. "Clearly if we're on the wrong path, we should change, but if you're asking me do I think we're on the wrong path, the answer is no," Chris Scolese, NASA's acting administrator, said at a news conference to unveil the agency's $18.7 billion spending plan for the fiscal year beginning October 1. The review, which is due by August, will focus on the U.S. space agency's Ares rocket program and the Orion capsule that is being designed to ferry astronauts to the International Space Station as well as to the lunar surface.
Prime contractors for the shuttle replacement program include Boeing Co, Alliant Techsystems Inc, Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp unit, which are building the new Ares rocket; and Lockheed Martin Corp, which is developing the Orion capsule spacecraft. The space shuttles are due to be retired by September 30, 2010, after eight more flights to assemble and outfit the space station and a final servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope that is scheduled for launch on Monday. The $3.2 billion budget request for space shuttle operations includes funds for an added flight to carry the $1.5 billion Alpha Magnet Spectrometer particle physics experiment to the station for installation and operation. Scolese said the review panel also will address extending NASA support of the space station beyond 2016 and possibly the lunar initiative.
