notes on new mexico & scenes from an airport

notes on new mexico & scenes from an airport"there's a new mexico?" as many of you know, we went 'off the grid' last week. although we did discover some wi-fi by the second day, i still stuck to my 'internet fast' for the most part. but i took notes on some of the interesting things that happened while visiting family in taos, here are some highlights:

- we saw shirley maclaine at the santa fe airport, she was wearing a big jacket that said 'ghetto blaster' on the back

- there's a pretty cool radio station called ktao 101.9fm (it's solar powered!); and i was listening for the emergency alert system test to happen, but they didn't participate. (here's what the test looked like elsewhere) and apparently, they weren't alone: 'emergency drill fails in new mexico'

- meanwhile, they're working on something called the 'taos regional command communications center'. brought to you by homeland security & the local 'power' company kit carson, it basically looks to be a consolidation of emergency, power & communication services. and, of course: "this system will also be responsible for monitoring cyber security tied to smart grid and green grid systems."

- our plane out of santa fe was delayed, which made us miss our connection at lax... yesterday, i saw this article about the airline we used: 'dept. of transportation issues first fine against airline for tarmac delay'

- i hope keane made a lot of money licensing "everybody's changing" to alaska airlines, but damn i used to really like that song...

- the council on foreign relations magazine, foreign affairs, was prominently displayed on sale at the newport news store in the los angeles international airport.

- i had my first chance to opt-out of the radioactive naked body scanners at lax; instead, i got felt up by a very nice gentlemen who didn't even tell me his name. it was around this point that i remembered it was veteran's day & that's why it was so crowded... we were reminded once again that it was a holiday by the fine folks at heinz ketchup.

i also drove a car for the first time in a decade, saw petroglyphs & more that i'll mention on the upcoming episode239... thanks for indulging me, james

nle '09: fema, foreign troops & private military contractors unite

nle '09: fema, foreign troops & private military contractors unitemassive preparation is well under way for national level exercise '09: fema 'terror prevention drills' july 27-31... these drills, formerly known as topoff, are being brought to you in part by "Northrop Grumman and its teammates, which include ICF International, Fairfax, Va., Battelle, Columbus, Ohio, Alutiiq, Anchorage, Alaska, L-3 Communications/MPRI, Alexandria, Va., UNITECH, Centreville, Va., and Interface Media Group, Washington, D.C., will perform this work in support of FEMA in Washington, D.C., and the south central states within FEMA's Region VI, which include Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas."

op-ed: upcoming police exercise is unsettling
op-ed: upcoming police exercise is unsettlingfrom augusta chronicle: There will be a government exercise conducted July 27-31. It is called National Level Exercise '09, or NLE '09. Although the focus of this exercise is on terrorism, it will not be focused on bearded men from the Middle East. The focus will be on internal threats: Americans. If this seems a bit absurd to the reader, let me expound on it.

The Pentagon, in their own documents, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Virginia State Police, in their own documents, have labeled Americans as possible terrorist threats. These people are known as Christians, pro-life activists, gun-rights advocates, homeschoolers, Ron Paul supporters, 9/11 truth activists, tea party demonstrators, etc. If this is hard to believe, one need only to type "Missouri Information Analysis Center" in a search engine to learn more.

Also, Shreveport, La., Mayor Cedric Glover apparently has suspended the Second Amendment in his city. I spoke to an aide in his office who confirmed this. This only came to light when citizen Robert Baillio was stopped and his gun, which he had a permit for, was taken. He had pro-gun stickers on his vehicle.

The aforementioned exercise will focus on terrorism prevention. This exercise will be a multinational, multi-agency effort. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Homeland Security, state, county, local and tribal agencies will focus on intelligence- and information-gathering.

Military troops from Britain, Australia, Canada and Mexico will be participants this year. Rumors have been circulating for quite a while of foreign troops on U.S. soil, and now it is happening. All this information can be found on FEMA's official Web site.

When all the documentation suggests that hard-working, honest citizens who believe in God, life and liberty are terrorists, then this country is in danger. The focus of the exercise is unsettling. If the mayor of one city can suspend our rights, what is the full might and muscle of our federal government capable of?

biowars/swine flu updates: pharma, accidents & military ops

swine flu vaccine rushed through safety checks -
experimental vaccine to be delivered in 'military-style operation'
experimental vaccine to be delivered in 'military-style operation'from times online: The path of a popular medicine from the laboratory to the chemist or doctor’s surgery can involve years of clinical trials on a select group of patients. When the new vaccine for swine flu arrives in Britain, regulators said this weekend, it could be approved for use in just five days. Regulators at the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) said the fast-tracked procedure has involved clinical trials of a “mock-up” vaccine similar to the one that will be used for the biggest mass vaccination programme in generations. It will be introduced into the general population while regulators continue to carry out simultaneous clinical trials. The first patients in the queue for the jab – being supplied to the UK by GSK and Baxter Healthcare – may understandably be a little nervous at any possible side effects. A mass vaccination campaign against swine flu in America was halted in the 1970s after some people suffered Guillain-Barré syndrome, a disorder of the nervous system... [Dr Peter Holden, the British Medical Association’s lead negotiator on swine flu] said it would be the biggest campaign in response to an outbreak since mass vaccination against smallpox in 1962. He said surgeries would be aiming to inoculate about 30 people an hour in a “military-style operation”.

did the swine flu escape from a lab?
from washington's blog: National Public Radio notes that Professor John Oxford at St. Bart's and the Royal London Hospital says that the 1957 H1N1 pandemic probably started when it escaped from a lab: "'We reckon now, in retrospect, it was probably released accidentally from a laboratory, probably in northern China or just across the border in Russia, because everyone was experimenting with those viruses at the time in the lab.' It was nothing malicious, Oxford believes, just some flu vaccine research that broke out of containment." Similarly, Bloomberg notes: "Some scientists have speculated that the 1977 Russian flu, the most recent global outbreak, began when a virus escaped from a laboratory." In 2005, scientists thawed out samples of the 1918 flu and tested it. A new study says that the current swine flu is very similar to the 1918 flu, and that people who lived through the 1918 epidemic have immunity to the current flu. Leading flu expert Adrian Gibbs believes the current swine flu may have escaped from a lab. It is also interesting that 2 of the 3 flu pandemics of the last century - the 1918 Spanish Flu and the 1976 swine flu scare - both started at military bases. Specifically, the 1918 flu started at Fort Riley, Kansas. The 1976 swine flu started - and never spread beyond - Fort Dix, New Jersey. It is unclear whether or not those bases conducted defensive biowarfare research.

florida preps for huge swine flu shot program
from florida today: Florida's surgeon general says the state is preparing for massive swine flu immunizations, starting with schoolchildren, as the Obama administration urges states to prepare for the likelihood that the virus might worsen in the fall. "We may end up averting a crisis. That's our hope," said President Barack Obama, who took time away from the G-8 summit in Italy to telephone another summit back home - the 500 state and local health officials meeting to prepare for swine flu's fall threat. "We want to make sure we aren't promoting panic, but we are promoting vigilance and preparation," Obama said. Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of Health and Human Services, told the swine flu summit some H1N1 vaccine should be ready by mid-October.

mandatory swine flu vaccinations this fall?
mandatory swine flu vaccinations this fall?from paul joseph watson: Swine flu fearmongering is increasing in its intensity the closer we get to fall, which is the timeframe earmarked for the production and potential mandatory distribution of vaccines which may not even properly fight the virus. Despite the fact that swine flu has killed far fewer people globally than the common flu virus since it was first discovered in April, media scare stories about H1N1 “epidemics” are becoming more and more frequent. A death toll in Britain of 14, every one of whom had underlying health problems to begin with, has prompted fearmongering headlines despite the fact that the 1999-2000 seasonal flu outbreak affected more people. Add to this the fact that doctors are treating swathes of ordinary flu sufferers as swine flu cases and the exaggerated paranoia is plain to see. Reuters reports today that the World Health Organization will “issue guidance about the need for a H1N1 influenza jab” during a press conference later today or on Monday. Meanwhile, the U.S. government has put states on notice that swine flu vaccinations will begin in October.

military wants a swine flu greenhouse
military wants a swine flu greenhousefrom danger room: Over a million Americans are estimated to have been infected with swine flu so far. And the government hasn’t even decided who will get the first doses of vaccination, which won’t be ready until September. It’s no wonder the military wants a national pandemic response that’s faster, cheaper, more convenient, and… growable. Leave it to Darpa, the Pentagon’s far-out research arm, to suggest gardening as a swine flu fighter. The agency is looking for proposals for a facility that can manufacture mass quantities of plants that have been genetically modified to yield antibody proteins.

the history of the synthetic h1n1 flu virus & a not-so-rosy future
from wayne madsen: The history of the extraction of the genetic material from the corpses of victims of the 1918 Spanish influenza virus who were buried in Arctic permafrost is part “X-Files” and part “Jurassic Park.” After an unsuccessful 1951 mission, that involved U.S. biological warfare specialists, to extract 1918 Spanish flu genetic material in 1951 from a cemetery in the Inupiat Eskimo village of Brevig Mission, Alaska, scientists made another attempt, a successful one it turns out, in 1997.

memo tells kansas juvenile jails to prep for 10-day quarantine
from ap: Authorities in charge of the youth inmates in Kansas have geared up for the possibility of a swine flu outbreak at juvenile correctional facilities. The Juvenile Justice Authority issued a memo Tuesday to all staff outlining plans to monitor the spread of swine flu and minimize exposure. The memo comes on the heels of staff concerns over two earlier unauthorized memos issued at the correctional facilities in Beloit and Larned requesting staff to start making personal plans in the unlikely event of a quarantine. Officials said the state's three juvenile justice facilities are screening visitors for flu symptoms. The state also suspended a requirement that community case managers conduct face-to-face contact with youths and increased medical screening of young people brought to a facility.

national level exercise '09: fema terror prevention drills july27-31

flashback: northrop/fema to run 'national level exercise' in 2009

national level exercise '09: fema terror prevention drills july27-31from kurt nimmo: FEMA is preparing to take its martial law exercises to the next level this July. According to a factsheet buried on the FEMA website, the agency will host National Level Exercise 2009 (NLE 09) on July 27 through July 31, 2009. “NLE 09 will be the first major exercise conducted by the United States government that will focus exclusively on terrorism prevention and protection, as opposed to incident response and recovery,” the factsheet states. It is designated as a Tier I National Level Exercise, or TOPOFF, which are exercises conducted annually in accordance with the National Exercise Program (NEP), “which serves as the nation’s overarching exercise program for planning, organizing, conducting and evaluating national level exercises,” according to FEMA. NLE 09 “will focus on intelligence and information sharing among intelligence and law enforcement communities, and between international, federal, regional, state, tribal, local and private sector participants” in the “aftermath of a notional terrorist event outside of the United States.” So-called “exercise play” will concentrate on “preventing subsequent efforts by the terrorists to enter the United States and carry out additional attacks... NLE 09 will be an operations-based exercise to include: activities taking place at command posts, emergency operation centers, intelligence centers and potential field locations to include federal headquarters facilities in the Washington D.C. area, and in federal, regional, state, tribal, local and private sector facilities in FEMA Region VI, which includes the states of Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas."

obamessiah: china, masonic inaugural ball & civilian service

obama moves to counter china with pentagon/nasa link
obama moves to counter china with pentagon/nasa linkfrom bloomberg: President-elect Barack Obama will probably tear down long-standing barriers between the U.S.’s civilian and military space programs to speed up a mission to the moon amid the prospect of a new space race with China. Obama’s transition team is considering a collaboration between the Defense Department and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration because military rockets may be cheaper and ready sooner than the space agency’s planned launch vehicle, which isn’t slated to fly until 2015, according to people who’ve discussed the idea with the Obama team. The potential change comes as Pentagon concerns are rising over China’s space ambitions because of what is perceived as an eventual threat to U.S. defense satellites, the lofty battlefield eyes of the military. “The Obama administration will have all those issues on the table,” said Neal Lane, who served as President Bill Clinton’s science adviser and wrote recently that Obama must make early decisions critical to retaining U.S. space dominance. “The foreign affairs and national security implications have to be considered.”

richardson withdraws from nomination to criminal cabinet
richardson withdraws from nomination to criminal cabinetfrom dpa: Bill Richardson had been tapped by president- elect Barack Obama to serve as commerce secretary in the incoming US administration, but on Sunday the New Mexico governor surprisingly withdrew his name from consideration for the position. Richardson cited an investigation of a company that had done business with New Mexico's government as grounds for the move. He did not provide details of the investigation, except to say that he and his administration 'have acted properly in all matters.' He said the probe would likely last for several weeks, or months, and would hamper his confirmation by the US Senate.

for more blackop terror drills?

'angel thunder': major international drill on US soil on dec1-12from arizona daily star: To troops downed in combat, few sights are sweeter than the approach of military rescuers. In a few weeks, Tucson will be at the center of efforts to speed up that lifesaving process. Personnel from around the globe will converge at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base from Dec. 1 to Dec. 12 for the largest rescue exercise of its kind. The effort, dubbed Angel Thunder, will involve the U.S. Army and Air Force, troops from Germany, Chile, Colombia and observers from Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Pakistan. Several non-military U.S. agencies such as the State and Justice departments, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the National Reconnaissance Office, also will take part in the drills, which aim to smooth interaction between military branches, allied nations and civilian agencies. With about 450 personnel involved, Angel Thunder "is the most complex and largest Department of Defense personnel- recovery exercise to date," said a news release from Air Combat Command in Langley, Va. D-M will be at the hub of the effort, but most of the mock rescue action will take place elsewhere in Arizona and in New Mexico.

fema occupies town for advanced 'terror training'

residents of new mexico town say they are used to the 'background noise'
fema occupies town for advanced 'terror training'from steve watson: The Federal Emergency Management Agency is spending $22 million dollars per year on a terror training program within a real town in New Mexico where helicopters buzz overhead in the middle of the night, mock nuclear explosions are drilled and "suicide bombers" are taken down by SWAT teams who pull citizens out of their homes.

The AP reports that what makes Playas, New Mexico an ideal training ground is the fact that it is a real town with real people living there.

There are a number of families in the town that are totally unconnected to the training and go about their daily lives while martial law scenarios are played out around them.

"Just a few years ago it was a ghost town abandoned after a large mining company pulled out," the AP's Rich Matthews reports. "Today, it's a training ground for the unthinkable: Nuclear attacks, invasions and suicide bombings in the United States."

"We have helicopters in the middle of the night flying overhead and explosions that can take place at all hours," resident Kim Kvame says. "It gets to be a part of the background noise that just lets you know you're home after a while."

new mexico to legalize medical marijuana

new mexico to legalize medical marijuanafrom ap/msnbc: Democratic Gov. Bill Richardson, poised to sign a bill making New Mexico the 12th state to legalize medical marijuana, said Thursday he realizes his action could become an issue in the presidential race.

"So what if it's risky? It's the right thing to do," said Richardson, one of the candidates in the crowded 2008 field. "What we're talking about is 160 people in deep pain. It only affects them."

The legislation would create a program under which some patients - with a doctor's recommendation - could use marijuana provided by the state health department. Lawmakers approved the bill Wednesday. The governor is expected to sign it in the next few weeks...

"I don't see it as being a big issue," he said. "This is for medicinal purpose, for ... people that are suffering. My God, let's be reasonable," he said.
