chicago's willis tower: on 'the ledge' with echoes of the world trade center

chicago's willis tower: on 'the ledge' with echoes of the world trade centerThere's growing chatter in the alternative media about the question: "Will There Be A New False Flag Attack On Chicago's Sears Tower?" In the past, we have covered the Tower's connections to Silverstein, Emanuel & the Private Intelligence Complex. But now there may be a new piece to add to the puzzle.

While looking through the print edition of yesterday's New York Times, an article on C1 caught my attention: "Suspended in Space, 103 Stories Over Chicago". It's a travel piece about the renovation of the Skydeck at Sears/Willis Tower and how 'The Ledge' has become a tourist attraction. This should raise a red (false) flag with you if - that is, if you have a degree in 9/11 folklore.

In the months leading up to 9/11, there was an event known as 'The B Thing' which allegedly involved building an observation deck on the 91st floor of World Trade Center Tower #1. This labyrinthine story is covered in great detail by Jonathan Elinoff's article: "Art Students in WTC Connected to Israeli Intelligence Service". Is this another case of predictive programming, that "subtle form of psychological conditioning provided by the media to acquaint the public with planned societal changes"? Or are we just chasing phantoms?

Suffice it to say: the eerie similarities, meta or otherwise, between the Willis & World Trade Center Towers keep growing as we approach the 10th anniversary of 9/11. And since this story seems to have gone unnoticed in the alternative media, we were excited to break it for you on the June 1st episode of 'The Bob Tuskin Show'.

9/11 updates: anniversary ailments, plans & beams

top 5 worst 9/11 memorials
top 5 worst 9/11 memorialsfrom vigilant citizen: 9/11 has inspired a myriad of memorials who are scattered all across America. Some of them are of questionable taste, others contain strange occult symbolism while others simply piss people off. Here’s the five most offensive... #5 Boston Memorial, #4 Polish Plaque, #3 All-Seeing Eye Memorial, #2 Teardrop Memorial & #1 Crescent of Embrace... 9/11 was a terrible tragedy, no matter who made it happen **cough** Rumsfeld **cough cough ** False flag terror ** cough**. Sorry, I don’t usually cough while typing. Since this event was the most terrible terrorist act committed on US soil, it is simply fitting that many memorials appear in honor of those who unjustly lost their lives. Some of them are very touching, inspiring and heartfelt. Others, not so much. Some even make you wonder if they were actually built for the victims or to serve an agenda. The monuments here are controversial, insensitive and slightly offensive…a little like this article. Enjoy.

steel beam from 9/11 attacks returned to new wtcfrom dpa: A massive steel column from the original World Trade Centre destroyed by terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, was returned to its original site on Monday to be a part of the memorial monument for victims. The 58-ton, 12-metre-high beam plunged deep into 'Ground Zero,' the site of the World Trade Centre's twins towers that collapsed, was the most visible remnant of the attacks. It stood erect while debris from the towers smouldered around it for weeks after the attacks. Its return also marked the rebirth of the World Trade Centre. The column was brought back from a depot at John F Kennedy airport to be the centre piece of the planned National September 11 Memorial and Museum. News reports said other large artefacts from 'Ground Zero' will also be returned to the site as construction for the new World Trade Centre is progressing. Joseph Daniels, president of the September 11 Memorial Foundation, was quoted as saying that artefacts like the steel column have "tremendous emblematic meaning... The last column represents all the effort by individuals that made this recovery effort unprecedented in American history," Daniels said. The United States will mark the eight anniversary of the attacks next month in which more than 3,000 people died.

lawyers can question 9/11 suspect in writing
from ap: Lawyers for a Guantanamo Bay detainee will be allowed to question — in writing — accused Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, a federal judge has ruled. The decision is a setback for government lawyers who had sought to limit the scope of detainee lawyers' challenges to the detention and prosecution of terror suspects. In a written ruling, Judge Ricardo Urbina says lawyers for detainee Abdul Raheem Ghulam Rabbani can submit written questions about their client to Mohammed. Prosecutors say he worked for Mohammed, but Rabbani's lawyers contend he was just a menial servant, not a part of any terror network. The ruling says prosecutors may review the answers before delivering them to Rabbani's lawyers to remove any national security information.

army judge: 9/11 lawyers can't see cia 'black sites'
from miami herald: A military judge says defense lawyers for an alleged Sept. 11 plotter held at Guantánamo don't need to inspect secret CIA overseas prisons to determine whether the accused al Qaeda terrorist is competent to stand trial. Judge Stephen Henley, an Army colonel, ruled Monday that the so-called black sites have likely changed enough since 2006 that an inspection would be of no use to Ramzi Bin al Shibh's Pentagon-appointed defense lawyers.

9/11 survivors call for renewed probe as 8th anniversary nears
9/11 survivors call for renewed probe as 8th anniversary nearsfrom nj star-ledger: The eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks is a month away and some survivors of those lost believe it's a good time to renew an investigation into the events of that disastrous day. New York City disagrees. "We know we never have learned the truth, it's as simple as that," says Lorie Van Auken of East Brunswick, one of the most ardent supporters of the creation of the 9/11 commission in 2002. It was headed by former New Jersey governor Thomas H. Kean. "Members and staff of the 9/11 commission have said many of the questions raised by the attacks have never been answered."

google temporarily shuts down sibel edmonds' blog
from kurt nimmo: Increasingly, Google and its properties - the vastly popular video site YouTube and equally popular Blogger - are tools for shutting down opposition to the government. On the weekend, Google removed an Alex Jones video critical of Obama’s policies. Google classified the video as “hate speech” because the corporation allegedly received complaints the content of the video was racist. In the video, Alex appears as “Obama the Joker,” as depicted in a now infamous street art poster. Google also shut down the blog of Sibel Edmonds last week. Edmonds is a former FBI translator and founder of the National Security Whistleblowers Coalition. Edmonds is fighting efforts by the FBI and the Department of Justice to prevent her from testifying in a case of alleged election fraud. Edmonds is scheduled to testify before the Ohio Elections Commission and both the Department of Justice and the FBI are attempting to halt her from testifying. On July 31, Edmonds told the Mike Malloy Show the U.S. government had “intimate relations” with Osama bin Laden right up to the day of the attacks in New York on September 11, 2001. “These ‘intimate relations’ included using Bin Laden for ‘operations’ in Central Asia, including Xinjiang, China. These ‘operations’ involved using al Qaeda and the Taliban in the same manner ‘as we did during the Afghan and Soviet conflict,’ that is, fighting ‘enemies’ via proxies,” reported the Brad Blog. In an email sent today, Edmonds writes about Google blocking her Blogger account. “My Blog Site http://123realchange.blogspot.com is now blocked by Google’s Blogger. They will not let me post during this most sensitive period, when I am about to provide deposition on Foreign US government illegal operations in the United States!

ground zero 1st responder john mcnamara dies of cancer
ground zero 1st responder john mcnamara dies of cancerfrom nydailynews: An FDNY veteran who worked tirelessly at Ground Zero and pushed for better health benefits for first responders died Sunday after a battle with cancer. John McNamara, 44, spent 10 years with the FDNY and was diagnosed with colon cancer in the aftermath of his time at Ground Zero. McNamara spent about 500 hours looking for his fallen brethren at the site where the World Trade Center once stood, and his plight was part of a documentary called "Save the Brave," which chronicled the lives of ailing rescue workers. McNamara, who was assigned to Ladder 123 in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, also joined the FDNY's rescue mission to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. He became ill in June 2006 and the cancer spread to his liver and stomach. Though gravely ill, he spent his remaining years fighting for better testing and health benefits for firefighters who worked at Ground Zero. "We take comfort in knowing this hero no longer suffers," said John Feal, head of an advocacy group for Sept. 11th responders. McNamara is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and 2-year-old son, Jack.

white house: 9/11 plotters planning attack against US
from ptinews: The people who planned and executed the 9/11 attack are still operating in the area and plotting attack against the United States, the White House today said, adding this is the reason why America continues to be in Afghanistan. "We should keep in mind that the reason we are in Afghanistan is because the people who plotted and executed the attacks on 9/11 are still operating there and are plotting attacks against Americans even now," White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton told reporters abroad Air Force One traveling with US President Barack Obama, en route to Andrews Air Force Base from Mexico. President Obama, he said, feels that the troops in Afghanistan are operated under some of the most dangerous conditions in the world and they are doing it bravely and with a great amount of courage.

interrogation incorporated: 2 US architects of harsh tactics in 9/11’s wakeinterrogation incorporated: 2 US architects of harsh tactics in 9/11’s wakefrom nytimes: Jim Mitchell and Bruce Jessen were military retirees and psychologists, on the lookout for business opportunities. They found an excellent customer in the Central Intelligence Agency, where in 2002 they became the architects of the most important interrogation program in the history of American counterterrorism. They had never carried out a real interrogation, only mock sessions in the military training they had overseen. They had no relevant scholarship; their Ph.D. dissertations were on high blood pressure and family therapy. They had no language skills and no expertise on Al Qaeda. But they had psychology credentials and an intimate knowledge of a brutal treatment regimen used decades ago by Chinese Communists. For an administration eager to get tough on those who had killed 3,000 Americans, that was enough. So “Doc Mitchell” and “Doc Jessen,” as they had been known in the Air Force, helped lead the United States into a wrenching conflict over torture, terror and values that seven years later has not run its course.

9/11 mind swell
from joel s. hirschhorn: As we approach the eighth anniversary of 9/11 consider this paradox: In the post 9-11 years the scientific evidence for disbelieving the official government story has mounted incredibly. And the number of highly respected and credentialed professionals challenging the official story has similarly expanded. Yet, to the considerable disappointment of the international 9/11 truth movement, the objective fact is that there are no widespread, loud demands for a new government-backed 9/11 investigation. The 9/11 truth movement is the epitome of a marginalized movement, one that never goes away despite not achieving truly meaningful results, which in this case means replacing official lies with official truth. What has gone wrong?

9/11 updates: tv, truth & breakthroughs

dutch tv show, devil's advocate, exonerates osama bin laden
dutch tv show, devil's advocate, exonerates osama bin ladenfrom hollywood reporter: A Dutch TV jury has found Osama bin Laden not guilty of the Sept. 11 attacks. In the conclusion Wednesday night to the show "Devil's Advocate" on Dutch public broadcaster Nederland 2, the jury of two men and three women, along with the studio audience, ruled there was no proof bin Laden was the mastermind behind the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in 2001. The Netherlands, home to "Big Brother" creator Endemol, is known for being on the cutting edge of format-based television. But even for Dutch standards, "Devil's Advocate," from Amsterdam production house AVRO, pushes the envelope. The show features star defense attorney Gerard Spong standing up for some of the world's worst criminals. In the latest show, Spong was able to convince the jury that bin Laden's connection to Sept. 11 was a product of "Western propaganda." The jury also ruled there was insufficient evidence to prove bin Laden was the real head of terrorist network al-Qaida. However, the jury did rule that bin Laden is a "terrorist who has misused Islam."

9/11 commission counsel: govt agreed to lie about 9/11from paul joseph watson: The senior counsel to the 9/11 Commission - John Farmer - says that the government agreed not to tell the truth about 9/11, echoing the assertions of fellow 9/11 Commission members who concluded that the Pentagon were engaged in deliberate deception about their response to the attack. Farmer served as Senior Counsel to the 9/11 Commission (officially known as the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States), and is also a former New Jersey Attorney General. 'rescue me' heats up with 9/11 conspiracy theories
'rescue me' heats up with 9/11 conspiracy theoriesfrom tvguide: Rescue Me is back from its 18-month hiatus, and the early episodes of Season 5 prove the show is again firing on all its raucous and raunchy cylinders. But it's also turning a more focused eye back on 9/11 and its impact on the men of 62 Truck. In doing so, this season brings mainstream attention to widespread conspiracy theories that suggest the 9/11 attacks were an "inside job." Fireman Franco Rivera — played by Daniel Sunjata, who in real life subscribes to these same beliefs — becomes the mouthpiece for these ideas on the show, something Sunjata admits he wasn't expecting to see on his script pages. "I was pretty shocked because I happen to know for a fact that those opinions are not indicative or reflective of FX, Denis Leary, Peter Tolan, or anybody affiliated with creating the show," Sunjata tells TVGuide.com. "What I like about the way they're addressing the topic is that they're not pre-packaging it for the audience — the reactions span the whole spectrum from agreeing to vehemently disagreeing to a great big question mark. I think it's laudable and admirable that with such a hot and controversial topic, FX was willing to even include it in the show."

update1: jury deadlocks on whether officer lied to get 9/11 funds
from washington post: A federal judge declared a mistrial yesterday after a jury deadlocked on four charges accusing a former Navy commander of lying about injuries he suffered during the 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon to collect more than $300,000 from a victims' fund. The decision by U.S. District Judge Henry H. Kennedy came hours after the jury in Washington had acquitted the commander, Charles E. Coughlin, of three counts of mail fraud. Susan Menzer, an assistant U.S. attorney, said prosecutors would tell the judge whether they intend to retry Coughlin during a hearing May 1.

wtc office towers could be put off for decadesfrom ap: Construction of several ground zero office towers could be put off for decades because of the failing real estate market, the site's owners said Thursday, citing an analysis that projected one skyscraper might not be built and occupied until 35 years after Sept. 11. Developer Larry Silverstein and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey have been talking on and off for months about rewriting a 3-year-old agreement that gives the developer rights to build three out of five towers planned at the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attack site.

'lucky' larry silverstein wants a bailout, too

'lucky' larry silverstein wants a bailout, toofrom raw story: As if there weren't enough roadblocks to seeing a new structure rise from the site where the World Trade Center towers once stood. From this morning's Wall St. Journal:
The rebuilding of the World Trade Center site, already hobbled by years of delays and infighting, is facing fresh problems as private developer Larry Silverstein asks the government for crucial financial assistance, according to people familiar with the matter. The result would be that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the government entity that owns the site, would take on more of the risk of the project at a time when the agency already faces budget restraints to pursue its core transportation and infrastructure missions. The Port Authority, eager to prevent the project from stalling, is considering helping to finance at least one of Mr. Silverstein's planned three office towers, according to people familiar with the matter. Mr. Silverstein is requesting financing help on at least two of the three towers. The Port Authority would require concessions from Mr. Silverstein, including possibly giving up some of upside profits should the towers succeed in the long term.
This is the same guy who wanted double his insurance policy's value after the devastating 2001 attacks because each airplane impact, as he said, was actually a separate act of terrorism. And that's the Nice on some of the bad press surrounding Silverstein ... Most know him best from his eternally curious comment to PBS shortly after the collapse of WTC 7. Is this a worthy use of tax dollars by the Port Authority?

Countdown’s Keith Olbermann points out the numerous times the White House was briefed on suspicious activity and chose to do nothing about it. additions to the 9/11 timeline as of dec22: day of 9/11 & united 23
from history commons: Most of this week’s new entries in the 9/11 Timeline again deal with the day of 9/11, shortly before which NORAD was preparing a major war game. On the day itself, the Northeast Air Defense Sector (NEADS) called an air defence unit in Atlantic City, just before the first plane hit the World Trade Center, but the phone was not answered. FAA manager Ben Sliney began responding to the crisis around the same time and the air space over New York was closed after the second plane hit. There are also new entries about another phone call from Flight 93, by passenger Andrew Garcia, a suspected hijack in the afternoon that delayed travel by President George Bush, and the lobby of World Trade Center 7, which was ruined by midday.

Another additional entry covers United 23, which was thought to be a potential hijack target on 9/11. The alleged potential hijackers were arrested when they returned to the airport a few days after the attacks, but soon released. Finally, the air force also started using a better radar system in Washington the day after the attacks and the governor of Kentucky was nearly shot down over Washington in 2004.

families ask bush to seize land for 9/11 memorial
families ask bush to seize land for 9/11 memorialfrom washington post: It has been more than seven years since 20-year-old Deora Bodley and 39 other passengers and crew died in the fiery crash of United Airlines Flight 93, their hijacked plane disintegrating in a grove of hemlock trees outside Shanksville, Pa. Most of the remains from the tragedy on Sept. 11, 2001, were never recovered, making the bowl-shaped crash site in the western Pennsylvania countryside an unofficial cemetery and, for surviving relatives, sacred ground. But efforts to buy property for a national Flight 93 memorial have bogged down in federal red tape and a protracted land dispute, angering family members and risking plans to hold a dedication ceremony on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The delays have prompted an advocacy group, Families of Flight 93, to ask President Bush to personally intervene during his final weeks in office to allow the federal government to seize the land needed for the memorial and to allocate part of the money for the project. "He signed the memorial act. He wanted something to be there and to be in place for years and years to come," said Bodley's mother, Deborah Borza, of San Diego. "We have waited so long already. I hold on to being hopeful that between now and January 20, something will happen, something will break free." Landowner Mike Svonavec of Svonavec Inc. of Somerset, Pa., said the National Park Service and Flight 93 groups are "trying to make my company and myself look like the bad guy in this."

conservative prof: 'saddest part' of 9/11 attacks was impact on bush
from raw story: "For me, the saddest part about the terrorist attacks of 9/11 is the long-term impact on the presidency of George W. Bush," wrote Tony Campbell, an adjunct professor of political science with Maryland-based Towson University, on The Moderate Voice Monday. Nevermind the 3,000+ Americans who died on Sept. 11, 2001. Or the resulting wars. Or that one of the countries Bush chose to invade had nothing to do with the attacks. Or even the lingering, unanswered questions as to just how exactly the 9/11 attacks were pulled off.

9/11 updates: lawsuits, liability, chat logs & flukes

nyc ruling limits airlines' liability for 9/11 (or: lucky larry wants more)from ap: A judge says developer Larry Silverstein cannot recover more from the aviation industry than the $2.8 billion value of the World Trade Center if his lawsuits succeed. Federal Judge Alvin Hellerstein made the determination in a ruling filed Thursday. The decision carried Wednesday's date. Hellerstein rejected Silverstein's claims that his company would be entitled to as much as $16.2 billion from American Airlines, United Airlines and other aviation defendants. A lawsuit on behalf of Silverstein's companies claimed that negligence by the airlines allowed the terrorists to hijack planes that struck the twin towers on Sept. 11, 2001. The aviation defendants denied liability. A call to Silverstein's lawyer wasn't immediately returned.

families' 9/11 liability suit could go to trial
from raw story: A federal district court judge in Manhattan said Monday that he will decide whether or not a suit brought against US airlines by families of several victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, may proceed. “I would like some truth and accountability, and I want the public to hear it,” said Mike Low, whose daughter Sara was a flight attendant on American Airlines flight 11. Low spoke with the Boston Globe for a Monday report. The families of Barbara Keating, 72, Mark Bavis, 31, and Sara Low, 28, asked Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein to allow their full liability suit against airlines and security companies in Boston to progress to trial. The suit alleges that security at Dulles International Airport, Newark International Airport and Logan International Airport was negligent in allowing the alleged terrorists to board the flights. To date, no family members of Sept. 11 victims have had a day in court. Over 3,000 families have instead accepted lucrative settlements from the federal victims compensation fund, with the average figure hovering in the range of $2 million.

james risen: history will view 9/11 as 'a fluke'
james risen: history will view 9/11 as 'a fluke'from raw story: New York Times scribe James Risen has been at the forefront of uncovering President Bush's most cavalier redefinitions of executive power. Bush likes to tout the fact that there has not been another domestic terror attack since Sept. 11, 2001, as justification for his extreme and perhaps illegal policies, like the warrantless eavesdropping on Americans that Risen and Times colleague Eric Lichtblau first revealed. Risen scoffed at this excuse, comparing it to a joke about a man who puts a "No Elephants" sign in his backyard and credits it with keeping the creatures away. "I think the basic storyline is going to be in the long run that 9/11 was a fluke," Risen said in an interview with the American News Project. "They got lucky. We weren't really ready or prepared to deal with an operation like that; it was really a failure of imagination."

james risen: 9/11 was a fluke
from 9/11 blogger: The "No Elephants" sign is funny and appropriate, but it seems, at the least, premature, without a full investigation, to come to the conclusion that 9/11 was "a failure of imagination"- when 70% of the families' questions were ignored and haven't been addressed by the MSM responsibly - unlike drunk driving celebs and missing white women- and more info has come out since, including info on what's being withheld... career army specialist sues rumsfeld & cheney, saying no evacuation order given on 9/11from raw story: A career Army specialist who survived the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, claims that no evacuation was ordered inside the Pentagon, despite flight controllers calling in warnings of approaching hijacked aircraft nearly 20 minutes before the building was struck. According to a time-line of the attacks, the Federal Aviation Administration notified NORAD that American Airlines Flight 77 had been hijacked at 9:24 a.m. The Pentagon was not struck until 9:43 a.m.

On behalf of Spc. April Gallop, who served in the Network Infrastructure Services Agency as an administrative specialist, California attorney William Veale has filed a civil suit against former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Vice President Dick Cheney and former US Air Force General Richard Myers, who was acting chairman of the joint chiefs on 9/11. It alleges they engaged in conspiracy to facilitate the terrorist attacks and purposefully failed to warn those inside the Pentagon, contributing to injuries she and her two-month-old son incurred.

"The ex-G.I. plaintiff alleges she has been denied government support since then, because she raised 'painful questions' about the inexplicable failure of military defenses at the Pentagon that day, and especially the failure of officials to warn and evacuate the occupants of the building when they knew the attack was imminent" said Veale in a media advisory.

Spc. Gallop also says she heard two loud explosions, and does not believe that a Boeing 757 hit the building. Her son sustained a serious brain injury, and Gallop herself was knocked unconscious after the roof collapsed onto her office. The suit also named additional, unknown persons who had foreknowledge of the attacks. "What they don't want is for this to go into discovery," said Gallop's attorney, Mr. Veale, speaking to RAW STORY. "If we can make it past their initial motion to dismiss these claims, and we get the power of subpoena, then we've got a real shot at getting to the bottom of this. We've got the law on our side."

The size of Mr. Silverstein’s claim was revealed last week at a status conference on the litigation in United States District Court in Manhattan.

plus: hillary's 9/11 fabrication
from dick morris: Now that Hillary Clinton has been nailed in an outright fabrication of her role in Bosnia, it is time to remind ourselves of another, even more galling fantasy that Hillary tried to sell the voters... Interviewed on the "Today" show one week after 9/11, she spun an elaborate yarn. The kindest thing we could say was that it was a fantasy. Or a fabrication.

conspiracy theologian
conspiracy theologianfrom ventura county reporter: When David Ray Griffin conceived his first book regarding the events of Sept. 11, 2001, his interpretation of what transpired that day revolved around the concept of blowback, that the attacks were a byproduct of America’s decades of aggressive foreign policy toward the Middle East. In short, at the time, he bought the official story of 9/11. He wasn’t letting the United States government off the hook for their role in the attacks, but he wasn’t placing culpability where he would eventually place it: squarely on the shoulders of the Bush administration.

zelikow 'made it clear' to 9/11 commission hat richard clarke 'should not be believed'from thinkprogress: [March 8th]’s Sydney Morning Herald prints an extract from Shenon’s book which provides further details about Rice’s incompetence. "Emails from the National Security Council’s counter-terrorism director, Richard Clarke, showed that he had bombarded Rice with messages about terrorist threats" before 9/11, Shenon writes... But 9/11 Commission staff director Philip Zelikow was not interested in pursuing criticisms against Rice. Zelikow - who had worked closely with Rice on the Bush transition team in 2000 and 2001 - "made it clear to the team’s investigators that Clarke should not be believed, that his testimony would be suspect."

larry 'pull it' silverstein makes more money off of wtc

larry 'pull it' silverstein makes more money off of wtcfrom daily press: The World Trade Center site's owner will pay millions in fines for falling at least a month behind on a deadline to turn over part of the site to a private developer building office towers there.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will pay between $9 million and $13.5 million to Larry Silverstein for failing to excavate foundations for two of five planned skyscrapers at the site by today, its director said Monday.

The Port Authority set the deadline - and $300,000-a-day penalties if it didn't deliver the land on time — in a contentious renegotiation of Silverstein's lease in 2006 that officials said would help speed up long-stalled development at the 16-acre site.

The agency's executive director, Anthony Shorris, said Monday that contractors worked 20-hour-a-day schedules for months and have removed 300,000 tons of material — enough to fill Giants Stadium — but could not finish by the deadline.

"They were ambitious goals. We did our best to meet them," Shorris said. "This is an enormous project. ... I wished we'd be right on schedule."

Shorris said the land would be completely excavated in four to six weeks. The job's contractor is losing a $10 million bonus it was promised if it met today's deadline, Shorris said.

Silverstein's company hired a contractor in November to build the two towers' foundations and said it will make other preparations to be able to start building as soon as the Port Authority turns over the land.

"We appreciate how much the Port Authority has accomplished this year, and a few extra weeks to complete everything is a minor bump in the road in the context of this entire project," said Janno Lieber, who oversees the trade center project for Silverstein.

Silverstein, who leased the trade center complex six weeks before 9/11, gave up rights to the Port Authority to build two of the five planned office towers at ground zero.
