from bbc: Libya's ex-leader Col Muammar Gaddafi has been killed after an assault on his birthplace of Sirte, officials say. The circumstances of his death are not yet clear. Video has emerged purporting to show Col Gaddafi being captured alive and bundled on to a truck. Fighters loyal to the National Transitional Council (NTC) said they found him hiding in a hole, and shot him when he tried to escape. Col Gaddafi was toppled in August after 42 years in power. The NTC now plans to officially announce Libya's "liberation" before indicating the next steps towards democratic elections. After a day of conflicting reports and rumours, the NTC's acting prime minister Mahmoud Jibril told a news conference: "We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Muammar Gaddafi has been killed."

from intel hub: As the corporate media is ablaze with reports that the Libyan rebels are set to take Tripoli from Gaddafi, it is important to remember that these rebels are NOT freedom fighters, rather they are CIA run, Al Qaeda connected murderers. This so called liberation of Libya is the EXACT opposite of what the corporate media is actually reporting. NATO and the Libyan rebels have killed thousands of civilians while at the same time the corporate controlled media pretends we are fighting for human rights. desperate western military action against libya has begun

from reuters: A coalition of the United States and four other nations launched military action against Libya on Saturday, officials said, as the West tries to force Muammar Gaddafi from power. A U.S. official told reporters on condition of anonymity that a coalition including the United States, France, Britain, Canada and Italy had begun launching strikes on Libya designed to cripple Muammar Gaddafi's air defenses. At least some Arab nations are expected to join the coalition later, the official said. A second U.S. official, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said missiles were launched from a warship against Libyan targets. U.S. forces and planes will take part in the operation, called "Odyssey Dawn," that will mainly target air defenses around the Libyan cities of Tripoli and Misrata. Some 25 coalition ships, including three U.S. submarines armed with Tomahawk missiles, are stationed in the Mediterranean, a military slide showed. Five U.S. surveillance planes are also in the area, it showed.

from foreign policy: President Obama issued an executive order Friday evening that imposes immediate sanctions on Libyan ruler Muammar al Qaddafi, his sons and his accomplices in the slaughter of civilians. In a letter accompanying the order, Obama declared a national emergency over the situation. "I have determined that the actions of Colonel Muammar Qaddafi, his government, and close associates, including extreme measures against the people of Libya, constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States. The order declares a national emergency to deal with this threat," Obama wrote in the letter to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH)...

from raw replay: As his government increasingly fell out beneath him, 41-year Libyan dictator Muammar al-Gaddafi struggled to keep projecting an image of power. After a day of rumors about whether he was still in the country, he was said to be planning a major speech Monday, but then appeared on state television for approximately 15 seconds, merely to claim that he was in Tripoli.
