tsa records show some scanners emit ten times expected radiation

tsa admits bungling of naked body scanner radiation tests...
tsa records show some scanners emit ten times expected radiationfrom the new american: Americans concerned about exposure to potentially dangerous levels of radiation from the Transportation Security Administration’s full-body scanners just got another reason to worry: USA Today reports that on March 11 the TSA announced “that it would retest every full-body X-ray scanner that emits ionizing radiation — 247 machines at 38 airports — after maintenance records on some of the devices showed radiation levels 10 times higher than expected.” The TSA, of course, insists that all the machines are safe and that the records indicating the high radiation levels are the result of recordkeeping errors by technicians. TSA spokesman Nicholas Kimball told USA Today that, for example, “the testing procedure calls for the technician to take 10 separate scans” for radiation levels, “add them up and then divide by 10 to take an average. They didn’t divide by 10.” In addition, says the paper, “even the highest readings listed on some of the records — the numbers that the TSA says were mistakes — appear to be many times less than what the agency says a person absorbs through one day of natural background radiation.”

group to burn 9/11 commission report at anniversary gathering

update: thanks to everyone that came out & made this event a success - and thanks to infowars, truth excavator & freedom's phoenix for spreading the word!

GROUP TO BURN 9/11 COMMISSION REPORT AT ANNIVERSARY GATHERING
group to burn 9/11 commission report at anniversary gatheringPortland, OR, September 11th, 2010: Independent journalist/talk show host James Evan Pilato and national talk show host Clyde Lewis will appear together at the True Brew Coffee House, 3370 SE Milwaukie Ave. near Powell for a peaceful gathering on the 9th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. During the gathering there will be public speakers and guests talking about 9/11 and what is being done to constructively heal after this devastating moment in history. James Evan Pilato, an independent journalist from MediaMonarchy.com and the world-renowned CorbettReport.com will team up with national talk show host Clyde Lewis of Ground Zero Radio to burn copies of the 9/11 Commission report at 1:00 PM.

This is in protest of the “International Burn the Quran Day” proposed by the Dove World Outreach Center and the Westboro Baptist Church. Pilato in a statement said “If you want to find a book of lies and half truths you don’t need to look any further than the slap shot 9/11 report.” Clyde Lewis concurs by stating “The 9/11 report has been held as the definitive account of what happened on September 11th, however many respected senior members of the military, intelligence services and government have expressed significant criticism of the 9/11 Commission Report and it has generated more hate and misunderstanding than the Quran or any other religious book.” The book burning will take place after the festivities and will be used to urge the public to demand the truth about the attacks and the prolonged war that followed. We urge the media to attend this event.

harvard economist: legalize all drugs to stop border violence

from raw replay: A Harvard economist says that legalizing marijuana would not go far enough to stop border violence. Jeffrey Miron told CNN’s Kiran Chetry that all drugs should be legalized. “A lot of the violence we’re seeing and a lot of the underground market is not related to marijuana but related to the other drugs. If we only did marijuana we would only have a small impact on the violence and corruption and disruption of other countries that is caused by U.S. prohibition of drugs and the U.S. forcing prohibition of drugs on other countries,” he said. This video is from CNN’s American Morning, broadcast Mar. 24, 2009.

obama plans anti-drug effort on border to aid mexico
obama plans anti-drug effort on border to aid mexicofrom washington post: President Obama is finalizing plans to move federal agents, equipment and other resources to the border with Mexico to support Mexican President Felipe Calderón's campaign against violent drug cartels, according to U.S. security officials. In Obama's first major domestic security initiative, administration officials are expected to announce as early as this week a crackdown on the supply of weapons and cash moving from the United States into Mexico that helps sustain that country's narco-traffickers, officials said. The announcement sets the stage for Mexico City visits by three Cabinet members, beginning Wednesday with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and followed next week by Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

video update1: obama opposes marijuana legalization
from raw replay: President Obama told a virtual town hall on Thursday that legalizing marijuana is the wrong economic strategy for the country. The White House press corps pressed Robert Gibbs if Obama meant to suggest that he was open to marijuana legalization. Gibbs was quick to say that Obama opposed legalization. “He doesn’t think that is the right plan for America,” he said.

video update2: legalizing pot would take away 70% of drug cartel profits
from russia today: Legalizing marijuana would eliminate the huge profits taken in by the Mexican drug cartels, which are threatening the stability of Mexico and the U.S., said Aaron Houston, a pro-pot advocate in Washington.

feel the change! more neocons & hawks in obama cabinet

obama announces clinton, gates for his cabinet
obama announces clinton, gates for his cabinetfrom ap: President-elect Barack Obama on Monday announced a foreign policy team led by former campaign rival Hillary Rodham Clinton and President Bush’s defense secretary, Robert Gates — both early supporters of a war in Iraq that he opposed and will be seeking to wind down. At a news conference, Obama also introduced retired Marine Gen. James Jones as White House national security adviser, former Justice Department official Eric Holder as attorney general and Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano as secretary of homeland security. The announcements rounded out the top tier of the team that will advise the incoming chief executive on foreign and national security issues in an era marked by wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and terrorism around the globe.

obama vows to continue to invest in military
from reuters: President-elect Barack Obama vowed on Monday to continue to invest to strengthen the U.S. military, increase ground forces and ensure success against al Qaeda and the Taliban. Announcing his national security team, Obama said Defense Secretary Robert Gates had agreed to remain in office, and reiterated his intention to announce a new mission as soon as he took office to end the war in Iraq. "We will also ensure that we have the strategy - and resources - to succeed against al Qaeda and the Taliban," Obama told a news conference. "And going forward, we will continue to make the investments necessary to strengthen our military and increase our ground forces to defeat the threats of the 21st century."

meet the new boss...

the new obama administration: a lot more of the same

obama to be next neocon US president?
from presstv: The next US government might not be able to keep its promise on 'Change' and might turn into a war-oriented administration, a prominent historian says. President-elect Barack Obama, who inspired Americans during his presidential campaign, defeated his Republican rival John McCain thanks to the new slogans in a historic election last month. During his transition time, Obama has been trying to name his administration among American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) lobbyists, foreign relation advisers, and congressmen. Selecting Joe Biden as vice president who supported the Iraq war before it became unpopular was a surprising decision when Obama himself opposed the war. "He [Biden] is a strong supporter of Israel. He even made a statement 'I am a Zionist'," Stephen Sniegoski, US historian and author, told Press TV correspondent in Washington.

obama 'dream team': rubin-clones and political fakery

neocons ♥ obama
from kurt nimmo: Max Boot just adores Barack Obama’s proposed national security team, especially the retention of Robert Gates as Secretary of Defense and General Jim Jones over at the NSC. “I have to admit that I am gobsmacked by these appointments, most of which could just as easily have come from a President McCain,” Boot fawns.

obama’s odious entourage

obama picks former fed chair to head economic advisory panel
from washington post: Barack Obama's appointment yesterday of former Federal Reserve chairman Paul A. Volcker to the growing team advising him on the nation's deepening financial crisis only heightens a central leadership challenge the president-elect will face: how to manage a stable packed with big brains and bigger personalities - and how to make decisions when those high-powered experts disagree. Volcker, as chairman of Obama's new Economic Recovery Advisory Board, will join New York Federal Reserve Bank President Timothy F. Geithner, who will lead the Treasury Department, and former Treasury secretary Lawrence H. Summers, who will run the White House's National Economic Council. The appointment of Volcker, who led the fight to rejuvenate the U.S. economy after the stagflation of the 1970s, is part of Obama's effort to seek "the best minds in America" to deal with the current crisis, as the president-elect put it this week.

audio: kenya ambassador confirms obama born in kenya

obama’s unusual transition: already a co-president
from mcclatchy: America has never seen anything quite like this: The president and president-elect acting like co-presidents, consulting and cooperating on the day's biggest crises. "It's pretty unusual," said George Edwards, a presidential expert at Texas A&M University, in College Station.

obamccain camps coordinated on staff rosters for next govt
from the washington note: A senior Obama campaign official shared with The Washington Note that in July 2008, the McCain and Obama camps began to work secretly behind the scenes to assemble large rosters of potential personnel for the administration that only one of the candidates would lead. Lists comprised of Democrats and Republicans were assembled, sorted into areas of policy expertise, so that the roster could be called on after the election by either the Obama or McCain transition teams. This kind of out-of-sight coordination is rare between battling presidential camps and provides some indication that both Obama and McCain intended to draw expertise into their governments from both sides of the aisle - or at least they wanted to appear interested in doing so if the information leaked out about the list development process. Fascinating tidbit on cooperation behind battle lines.

obama tells disappointed supporters: 'i am the change."
from gateway pundit: Oh, brother... Barack Obama told his disappointed supporters who voted for him on the promise of change only to find him appoint old Clintonites and Bush cabinet members not to be upset - 'I am the change.' McClatchy reported: "President-elect Barack Obama essentially said Wednesday that he is the change, striving to assure Americans that he'll shake up Washington despite filling his administration with old hands from the Clinton administration and the capital's corridors of power. "Understand where the vision for change comes from, first and foremost," Obama said. "It comes from me. That's my job, is to provide a vision in terms of where we are going, and to make sure, then, that my team is implementing." Halleluiah.

obamessiah updates: the coming criminal cabinet

obama’s council on foreign relations crew
obama’s council on foreign relations crewfrom steve watson: Meet some of president elect Obama’s leading foreign and domestic policy advisors and likely administration members, every one of them a prominent member of the Council On Foreign Relations. Will these people bring about "change" or will they continue to hold up the same entrenched system forged by the corporate elite for decades?

Susan E. Rice - Council on Foreign Relations, Brookings Institution - ...ill disposed towards Europe, has little understanding of the Middle East and would essentially follow the same policies of Condoleeza Rice if appointed the next Secretary of State or the National Security Adviser.

Anthony Lake
- CFR, PNAC - Bill Clinton’s first national security adviser, who was criticized for the administration’s failure to confront the genocide in Rwanda in 1994 and now acknowledges the inaction as a major mistake.

Zbigniew Brzezinski - CFR, Trilateral Commission - Brzezinski is widely seen as the man who created Al Qaeda, and was involved in the Carter Administration plan to give arms, funding and training to the mujahideen in Afghanistan.

Richard Clarke
- CFR - Former chief counter-terrorism adviser on the U.S. National Security Council under Bush. Notoriously turned against the Bush administration after 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq. Also advised Madeleine Albright during the Genocide in Rwanda.

Ivo Daalder - CFR, BI, PNAC - Co-authored a Washington Post op-ed with neocon Robert Kagan arguing that interventionism is a bipartisan affair that should be undertaken with the approval of our democratic allies.

Dennis Ross
- CFR, TC, PNAC - Served as the director for policy planning in the State Department under President George H. W. Bush and special Middle East coordinator under President Bill Clinton. A noted supporter of the Iraq war, Ross is also a Foreign Affairs Analyst for the Fox News Channel.

Lawrence Korb - CFR, BI - Director of National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. Has criticized manor of the invasion of Iraq but has detailed plans to increase the manpower of the United States Army to fight the war on terror and to "spread liberal democratic values throughout the Middle East".

Bruce Reidel
- CFR, BI - Former CIA analyst who wishes to expand the war on terror to fight Al Qaeda across the globe. Considered to be the reason behind Barack Obama’s Hawkish views on Pakistan and his Pro India leanings on Kashmir.

Stephen Flynn - CFR - Has been attributed with the idea for Obama’s much vaunted "Civilian Security Force". Flynn has written: "The United States should roughly replicate the Federal Reserve model by creating a Federal Security Reserve System (FSRS) with a national board of governors, 10 regional Homeland Security Districts, and 92 local branches called Metropolitan Anti-Terrorism Committees. The objective of this system would be to develop self-funding mechanisms to more fully engage a broad cross-section of American society to protect the country’s critical foundations from the widespread disruption that would arise from a terrorist attack."

Madeline Albright - CFR, BI - Currently serves on the Council on Foreign Relations Board of directors. Secretary of State and US Ambassador to the United Nations under Clinton. Did not take action against the genocide in Rwanda. Defended the sanctions against Iraq under Saddam Hussein. When asked by CBS’s 60 Minutes about the effects of sanctions: "We have heard that half a million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?" Albright replied: "I think this is a very hard choice, but the price — we think the price is worth it."

obama team cautious on homeland security appointment

janet napolitano picked to head homeland stupidity
from raw story: "Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano (D) has been chosen to serve as secretary of the vast and troubled Department of Homeland Security for President-elect Obama," Politico's Mike Allen reported late Wednesday night. "Napolitano is a border governor who will now be responsible for immigration policy and border security, which are part of Homeland Security's myriad functions."

daschle accepts job as health secretary
from thinkprogress: Roll Call reports that Former Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD), who is a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Center for American Progress, “has been offered the job of Health and Human Services secretary by President-elect Barack Obama and has accepted the job.” Daschle is also set to take on the position of “health care czar” in the Obama White House. CNN’s Ed Henry is also reporting he negotiated the “health care czar” position in order to be “the point person on all White House health-related issues.”

hillary to accept obama's offer of secretary of state job
from guardian: Hillary Clinton plans to accept the job of secretary of state offered by Barack Obama, who is reaching out to former rivals to build a broad coalition administration, the Guardian has learned. Obama's advisers have begun looking into Bill Clinton's foundation, which distributes millions of dollars to Africa to help with development, to ensure that there is no conflict of interest. But Democrats do not believe that the vetting is likely to be a problem.

war criminal & international fugitive, henry kissinger,
says hillary would be outstanding secretary of state

from bloomberg: Henry Kissinger said Hillary Clinton, a leading contender to be the Barack Obama’s Secretary of State, would be an “outstanding” appointment. “She is a lady of great intelligence, demonstrated enormous determination and would be an outstanding appointment,” Kissinger, who served in the post from 1973 to 1977 under presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, told the World Economic Forum’s India Economic Summit in New Delhi today.

skull & bones ghoulsbee to head obama economics team
from upi: University of Chicago economist Austan Goolsbee will be U.S. President-elect Barack Obama's choice to lead the White House economic team, sources say. Without naming sources, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Tuesday Goolsbee, 39, is expected to be named head of the White House Council of Economic Advisers when Obama takes office Jan. 20.

obama team tilts toward gates
from consortium news: Barack Obama’s Pentagon transition team is sitting down with Defense Secretary Robert Gates in a move that some Beltway observers believe signals that the President-elect does plan to keep Gates on despite protests from Iraq War opponents. Another sign that Obama may be close to retaining Gates has been the lack of chatter from transition officials about alternative candidates – beyond cursory references to names like former Navy Secretary Richard Danzig, Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel and Democratic Sen. Jack Reed. It was Danzig, chief of the Navy under President Bill Clinton and a senior Obama adviser, who prominently praised Gates during the campaign. He said Gates “is a very good Secretary of Defense and would be an even better one in an Obama administration.”

soros think tank becomes obama policy front
from bloomberg: Three blocks from the White House, on the 10th floor of a sleek glass building, young workers pound at computers, with giant flat-screen TVs overhead. It has the look and feel of a high-tech startup. In many ways it is. The product is ideas. Thanks in part to funding from benefactors such as billionaire George Soros, the Center for American Progress has become in just five years an intellectual wellspring for Democratic policy proposals, including many that are shaping the agenda of the new Obama administration.
