from reuters: The last of a powerful class of nuclear weapons introduced into the U.S. arsenal at the height of the Cold War in 1962 was being dismantled on Tuesday at a nuclear weapons storage facility outside Amarillo, Texas. "This was one of the largest bombs in the American arsenal," said Joshua McConaha, Public Affairs Director for the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration. He said the exact strength of the bomb -- known as the B53 and being dismantled at the DOE's B&W Pantex facility -- remains classified, but it is believed to have been many hundreds of times more powerful than the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima in 1945.

Video has emerged purporting to show Col Gaddafi being captured alive and bundled on to a truck. Fighters loyal to the National Transitional Council (NTC) said they found him hiding in a hole, and shot him when he tried to escape. Col Gaddafi was toppled in August after 42 years in power. The NTC now plans to officially announce Libya's "liberation" before indicating the next steps towards democratic elections. After a day of conflicting reports and rumours, the NTC's acting prime minister Mahmoud Jibril told a news conference: "We have been waiting for this moment for a long time. Muammar Gaddafi has been killed."

from allgov: The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has been secretly working on technology that can tip off law enforcement about those planning to commit a crime. Part profiling, part advanced mathematics, the Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST) is described as a “pre-crime” system by DHS. The program uses ethnicity, gender, breathing, eye tracking and heart rate to formulate a system for spotting criminals before they strike. According to the official description, the prototype contains “a suite of real-time, non-invasive sensor technologies to detect cues indicative of mal-intent (the intent or desire to cause harm).” A classified DHS document reportedly indicated that the controversial idea is already being tested on some members of the public voluntarily. If the technology proves reliable, the government might try using it at airport checkpoints, border crossings, sea ports or major sporting events.
from kurt nimmo: On Tuesday, the Justice Department announced it had uncovered a plot by Iran to enlist a member of a Mexican drug cartel to kill Saudi Arabia’s envoy in Washington, D.C. The FBI and the DEA uncovered the plot, according to officials. The FBI has a long track record of using informers and agents provocateurs to entrap dupes who are then described as dangerous terrorists.
