obama: US combat mission in iraq to end 'as promised'
from aaron dykes: In attempt to posture as a man of peace and of kept-promises in the lead-up to the midterm elections, President Obama has declared the “End of the War in Iraq,” claiming that withdrawal of troops from Iraq will be completed by August 31, 2010 and is ‘on schedule, as promised.’

“As a candidate for president, I pledged to bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end. I made it clear that by August 31, 2010, America’s combat mission in Iraq would end. And that is exactly what we are doing — as promised and on schedule,” President Obama stated.

Believing this fiction involves ignoring the fact that 50,000 troops or more, as well as countless contractors, would remain in Iraq. In addition, it would involve forgetting about Barack Obama’s campaign promises to bring troops home starting “day one” of his administration, or his other promise to bring them home by the end of 2009.

Obama’s deceptive announcement coincides with news that July was the deadliest month in Iraq since May 2008, though the Pentagon has attempted to dispute these numbers. The announcement also comes shortly after Sen. McCain commented on Iraq, quipping “We already won that one.” Meanwhile Iraq today is anything but stable, and our continued involvement has helped little if at all.

from aolnews: Nearly nine years, two recessions and thousands of conspiracy theories later, the U.S. government has made it official: Initial speculation after the 9/11 terrorist attacks that plotters made financial bets against airlines or other companies hurt by the events was unfounded.

The Securities and Exchange Commission began its inquiry into the matter on Sept. 12, 2001, and went on to examine trading in the U.S. and foreign securities markets that took place between Aug. 20 of that year and Sept. 11. While the agency wrapped up its investigation in May 2002, and there were references to the SEC's conclusions in the report by the federal 9/11 Commission, the findings were kept secret.

The Securities and Exchange Commission found no evidence that the conspirators behind the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks made financial bets against the airlines or other companies hurt by the terrorist assault.

ahmadinejad urges ban ki-moon to probe 9/11 attacks
from afp: Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has written to UN chief Ban Ki-moon, asking him to launch an investigation into the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, news reports said on Monday. "The minimum expectation from your excellency is to set up an independent and trusted fact-finding group to comprehensively investigate the real factors behind September 11," Ahmadinejad said in the text of the letter carried by official news agencies. They did not say when the letter was sent. The hardliner, who in March dismissed 9/11 as a "big lie," said in the letter that the attacks "were the main pretext for attacks" by NATO on Afghanistan and Iraq. Several times Ahmadinejad has questioned the accepted version of the Al-Qaeda strikes on New York and Washington which killed nearly 3,000 people.

iranian president mahmoud ahmadinejad was born a jew

from raw story: In a stunning report on Saturday, a British newspaper claimed to have uncovered proof that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - notorious among the international community for denying the holocaust - was actually born a Jew.

According to The Telegraph, a high resolution photograph of Ahmadinejad holding up his Iranian identity card, taken just before the 2008 election, reveals that his family changed its name shortly after he was born, renouncing their Jewish faith and adopting Islam.

"A close-up of the document reveals he was previously known as Sabourjian – a Jewish name meaning cloth weaver," the UK paper reported.

"The name is even on the list of reserved names for Iranian Jews compiled by Iran's Ministry of the Interior," noted Israeli publication YNet News.

At the annual Quds Day rally in Tehran last month, the Iranian president reiterated his denial of the holocaust and blasted the Israeli government.

from wikinews: Protests, riots and violence broke out in cities in Iran Saturday night following an election which many in Iran and the world say was fraudulent. Demonstrations took place late into the night, with waves of police fighting protestors in Tehran, Shiraz, Mashad and Rasht.

Protesters chanting "Death to the dictator!" occupied major streets around Tehran, with roadblocks being set up against police. Tear gas has been deployed against protestors in the upscale Valiasr Street district of Tehran as well as at the University of Tehran.

The protestors are supporters of Mir-Hossein Mousavi, a candidate in the Iranian presidential election. Mousavi accuses the Iranian government of "appalling" fraud after it reported that the nation's current president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who had been expected to receive less than 50% of the vote and have to face Mousavi in a runoff election, received 62%. Addressing officials in an open letter, Mousavi said, "this country has been through a grand Islamic revolution and the least message of this revolution is that our nation is alert and will oppose anyone who aims to seize the power against the law." The protesters, reports say, do not seek to overthrow the Islamic regime, which has been in place in Iran since 1979, but instead to reform it.

from presstv: The polls have opened in Iran in a presidential election which has generated intense excitement among the electorate as never before. Polls opened at 8:00 am (0330 GMT) and are to close ten hours later. Polling may be extended until midnight if needed to cater for demand, in what is expected to be a record turnout in a closely-contested election. By casting his ballot at about 8:15, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei became one of the first voters. In a brief speech to the waiting journalists, he commended the passionate yet peaceful nature of the election campaign and called on everyone to use their right to vote, which he also described as both a religious and logical duty. In addition to incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is seeking a second four-year term, Super Friday's vote includes former prime minister Mir-Hossein Mousavi, former parliament speaker Mehdi Karroubi and Secretary of the Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei. Over 46 million Iranians aged 18 and above, are eligible to vote today in the 10th presidential election since the Islamic Revolution in 1979 deposed the US-backed monarchy. In addition to the 45,713 ballot boxes ready to receive the people's votes throughout the country, the sizeable Iranian expat community is also catered for, with arrangements in place in about 130 countries worldwide.

from bbc: More than two million households in the United States will be faced with blank television screens when stations switch off their analogue signal for good. The nationwide transition to digital services has seen a last-minute rush to buy converter boxes and TVs. In total the US authorities have spent $2bn to smooth the transition. But, according to the Federal Communications Commission, there are still 2.2 million households which have made no preparations. US television viewers have been bombarded with a series of adverts over recent weeks, warning them that the analogue signal would be switched off on Friday and urging them to buy set top converter boxes if they didn't want to lose reception.

NORAD has a website to 'track' Santa's whereabouts, and they are using Rudolph's rfid red nose to follow the jolly old elf. The push of an armed escort into Santa's itinerary is an obvious attempt to condition children to accept the control grid, (it is of course out of love, and above all else, safety). They even use 9/11 to help define NORAD's purpose on their Santa tracking website, of course they leave out the part where they stood down that day. Why does the man who operates solely on magic need NORAD? He doesn't, it is NORAD who needs Santa's magic; to con the children. Get them young and hit them in a vulnerable spot, Bernays would be proud. NORAD should stick to standing down and leave the minds of our children alone.

from ap: Stinging from an acrimonious divorce, a man plotting revenge against his ex-wife dressed up like Santa, went to his former in-laws' Christmas Eve party and slaughtered at least eight people before killing himself hours later. Bruce Pardo's ex-wife and her parents were believed to be among the dead. Investigators planned to return to the scene Friday and sift through the ashes of the home, which Pardo set ablaze using a bizarre homemade device that sprayed flammable liquid.
