roman polanski set free after swiss reject US extradition request

from ap: The Swiss government declared renowned film director Roman Polanski a free man on Monday after rejecting a U.S. request to extradite him on a charge of having sex in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl.

The Swiss mostly blamed U.S. authorities for failing to provide confidential testimony about Polanski's sentencing procedure in 1977-1978.

The stunning decision could end the United States' three-decade pursuit of Polanski, unless he travels to another country that would be willing to apprehend him and weigh sending him to Los Angeles. France, where he has spent much of his time, does not extradite its own citizens, and the public scrutiny over Switzerland's deliberations may dissuade other nations from making such a spectacular arrest.

The Swiss government said it had sought confidential testimony given on Jan. 26 by Roger Gunson, the Los Angeles attorney in charge of the original prosecution against Polanski. Washington rejected the request. "Mr. Polanski can now move freely. Since 12:30 today he's a free man," Justice Minister Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf declared.

from clyde lewis: When I am not doing radio I have been doing work as an internet marketing consultant providing people with front page listings on Google. It is great job when the money comes and a waste of a day when nothing comes in. Lately I have been doing my business calls in Florida and Georgia.

Most of the areas I have been calling are far from the effects of the oil spill. When I start calling people that live closer to the Gulf coast the more I get disconnected phone numbers or answering services that tell me that the property owners have left the country for Europe. In one instance I was forced to find business in the Ukraine and sold search engine placement there.

I thought it was just a fluke, but anymore I am wondering if people have gotten the message and are “bugging out” of the Gulf States because of the fears of what might happen to them and their families.

from washington times: Americans avoided television in historic levels over the past week. CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox together had the smallest number of prime-time viewers last week in two decades of record-keeping, the Nielsen Co. said. Given the dominance of the big broadcasters before then, you'd probably have to go back to the early days of television to find such a collective shrug. The first week of July tends to be among the slowest weeks of the year in television, anyway, with families more engaged in barbecues and fireworks. The problem was magnified this year because July Fourth came on Sunday, largely knocking out one of a typical week's biggest viewing nights.

Coz some would argue that just by associating with the globalist crooks, she is. Today, I guess she's returning to the UK to hold another garden party or something like she did last year on 7/7.

Considering the media hype surrounding the fifth anniversary of 9/11, the fifth anniversary of 7/7 doesn't seem to have attracted much attention... I guess the reason they are not giving it much attention is because they don't want people to look into it. It is after all one of the the most suspicious terror attacks in recent history.

from usatoday: Here's another headwind for a sputtering job market: State and local governments plan many more layoffs to close wide budget gaps. Up to 400,000 workers could lose jobs in the next year as states, counties and cities grapple with lower revenue and less federal funding, says Mark Zandi, chief economist for Moody's Economy.com. The development could slow an already lackluster recovery. Friday, the Labor Department said employers cut 125,000 jobs, mostly because 225,000 temporary U.S. Census workers completed their stints. The private sector added 83,000 jobs, fewer then expected, as the jobless rate fell to 9.5% from 9.7%...

portland copwatch releases analysis

from kgw: Police watchdog group Portland Copwatch has released its annual review of the annual report of the Portland City Auditor's Independent Police Review Division. Copwatch's Dan Handelman called the review division report "a mixed bag of useful and buried information."

"There is less of an implication that the drop in complaints, use of force complaints, and officer involved shootings from 2007 to 2009 were the result of IPR's work," Handelman wrote in a summary. "However, the IPR still chose to highlight these trends in their Executive Summary pamphlet, while ignoring, for instance, that only one of 27 cases investigated by the Internal Affairs Division (IAD) was completed by the Bureau within the 5-month guideline."

Handelman added that Portland Copwatch "continues to welcome the IPR's more timely release of their annual report, and applauds the efforts to make the report more readable and objective." Portland Copwatch describes itself as "a grassroots group promoting police accountability through citizen action."

The commercialism & politics of the day seem to be far more important than what the day is set out to celebrate. It gets twisted to becoming a political holiday and much like Christmas it does not escape the debate over whether or not the United States is a country ordained by the Judeo-Christian God and founded on Christian scriptures & dogmas.
