update: jfk, fdr & 'seven days in may' from lisa pease: Robert Parry recently wrote of how President Obama's early actions might bring him a "Seven Days in May moment," referring to a fictitious coup attempt from a film of the same name, in which a popular military figure nearly took over the government. In Parry's piece, he compared Obama's situation to that of President Jimmy Carter. I was reminded, however, of President John Kennedy's comments regarding his own brush with the "Seven Days in May" scenario, and the dangers Obama too will face. I was also reminded of the coup that almost came about during President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's first term. The film "Seven Days in May" began as a novel by Fletcher Knebel, inspired to a great degree by Knebel's conversations with Gen. Curtis LeMay, President Kennedy's contentious Air Force Chief of Staff who was furious at Kennedy for not sending in full military support during the Bay of Pigs incident.

cfr/rockefeller deputy attends white house bank meeting from kurt nimmo: “The incoming chairman of Citigroup, Richard Parsons, showed up at the White House Monday, fueling talk that the federal government might take a massive ownership stake in the troubled banking behemoth,” reports Politico. “Parsons’ appointment was to see Valerie Jarrett, one of President Barack Obama’s closest West Wing confidants.” According to the corporate media, the government plans to grab 40 percent ownership in Citigroup, a move that is widely explained as “nationalization” of the banks. “Nationalizing ailing banks means the government would tell bank execs to take a hike, and then oversee taxpayer dollars as they course through the banking sector’s veins,” writes Thomas Kelley for Yahoo News. “When all is well, perhaps after selling assets and operations to new private investors, the government then steps back and lets a newly regulated bank sector float on its way.” In fact, “nationalization” has nothing to do with telling the banksters to “take a hike” and it certainly has nothing to do with regulation. Bank nationalization is a code word for a banker scheme to “socialize” the insolvency of selected banks, i.e., this insolvency will be transferred to the tax payers. lawmaker warns of 'forced servitude' under obama from paul joseph watson: New Hampshire state representative Dan Itse, who is one of many lawmakers leading the charge to assert state sovereignty against federal encroachment, has warned that the Obama administration seeks to institute “involuntary servitude”. Appearing on Fox News to discuss the states’ rights movement, Itse told hosts Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade, “This is about drawing a line in the sand and saying we’ve tolerated usurpations for so long but we’re not going to tolerate you violating the constitution, we’re going to hold you accountable.” Asked if his warning about involuntary servitude under Obama meant young people being forced to attend community service, Itse responded, “Exactly, I mean, if you are required to do a job against your will with a pay scale not set by you or not agreed to by you, that’s involuntary servitude.”
Lorie Van Auken, a leader of September 11th Advocates, a group headed by four New Jersey women who lost their husbands in the attacks, called the meeting "impressive," saying Obama gave detailed answers to their questions and allayed many of their concerns. She said the president did not rule out some form of military commissions in the future and acknowledged shortcomings in dealing with terrorism suspects in regular criminal courts. "He acknowledged this was quite a mess and it really needed to be looked at by his legal team and by him," said Van Auken, whose husband, Kenneth Van Auken, was killed in the World Trade Center and whose group supports closing Guantanamo Bay. "I think everybody recognized, no matter which side of the issue they're on, that this is a quagmire that will not be solved easily."

'rescue me' works 9/11 conspiracy theories into its plot from gothamist: Word has leaked that in an episode for the upcoming season of the FX firefighter drama Rescue Me, the womanizing fireman Franco—one of the show's main characters—espouses theories that 9/11 was an inside job, carried out as part of a neoconservative plot to change the definition of "preemptive attack" and control the world's oil. The Times says that it marks "the first fictional presentation of 9/11 conspiracy theories by a mainstream media company." Star of the show Denis Leary says that the scene is not far off from scenes in actual fire houses "where some of the younger members don’t even have to completely buy into the theory of 9/11 being an inside job, but want to discuss it." What is more striking than the fictional plot line is that the show is using the real-life conspiracy beliefs of the actor who plays Franco, Daniel Sunjata, to promote the storyline. In a press tour, Sunjata said that he “absolutely, 100 percent” supports the assertion that “9/11 was an inside job.”

study: 9/11 lung problems persist years later from ap: Researchers tracking Sept. 11 responders who became ill after working at the World Trade Center site found many had lung problems years later in a study the authors said proves persistent illness in people exposed to toxic dust caused by the twin towers' collapse. The study by the Mount Sinai Medical Center's medical monitoring program examined more than 3,000 responders between 2004 and 2007, repeating exams conducted between the middle of 2002 and 2004. Slightly more than 24 percent of the patients had abnormal lung function, the study found. In the earlier examinations, about 28 percent of the patients had similar results. "We know people we are following are still sick. It's confirming what we've been seeing clinically," said Dr. Jacqueline M. Moline, who treats ailing responders and co-authored the study.

Some observers are confused, to put it mildly, about the pick. The guy - a former White House chief of staff and House Budget Committee chairman - has a reputation for being a tough, competent manager, they say. But can he really be an effective CIA chief, with experience in the cloak-and-dagger world? What about those pledges, to keep the intelligence community out of politics? "I find the choice of Leon Panetta to head the CIA a curious one," one well-connected former spy tells Danger Room. "On the one hand, if you are looking to pick a nation's top spook, it is generally a good idea to pick someone with more than a cursory exposure to the intelligence business. It is also more than a little annoying that we can't seem to find a CIA chief that hasn't spent all of their adult life playing politics."
obama 'selects' another cfr member, cnn's sanjay gupta, to be surgeon general from kurt nimmo: “America’s most famous television surgeon, Sanjay Gupta, is poised to take his black bag and microphone to the White House as President-elect Barack Obama’s choice for U.S. surgeon general,” reports the Washington Post. “A neurosurgeon who is also a correspondent for CNN and CBS, Gupta was chosen as much for his broadcasting skills as for his medical résumé, suggesting that the incoming administration values visible advisers who can drive a public message.”
Part of Gupta’s “public message” is that thermersol and its mercury-based preservative has nothing to do with autism. In 2007, Gupta went on CNN to state there appears to be no relationship between thimerosal and autism (see video).
Gupta does not mention a study published in the March 10, 2006, issue of American Physicians and Surgeons that reveals that since mercury was removed from childhood vaccines, the alarming increase in reported rates of autism and other neurological disorders in children dropped sharply. Independent researchers used the government’s own databases on childhood neurological disorders, including autism, before and after removal of mercury-based preservatives.
Mr. Gupta appears to be part of an effort to deny there is an epidemic and try to hide the data from public scrutiny, while at the same time secretly putting in an addendum in to the Homeland Security Act specifically to prevent parents from suing vaccines companies for vaccine damage (see the Autism Mercury Link page on the Autism Couch web page).
Sanjay Gupta, as a member of the CFR and the Mockingbird corporate media, is part of the ongoing eugenics vaccination effort, thus his appointment as surgeon general makes perfect sense.
In addition, he was a White House Fellow in 1997 and served as special advisor to then-first lady Hillary Clinton. “We are told that the pitch to him has been that health care reform will be a top priority, that wellness, fitness, obesity, the issues he has focused on often here at CNN, will be a top priority,” reports John King.
In other words, Gupta will be Obama’s point man on the “continuum of care, basically from birth to death,” as fellow CFR member John Edwards put it, that is to say government micromanagement of “wellness, fitness, obesity” and other health issues.

Huntington, who taught for 58 years at Harvard before retiring in 2007, died Wednesday at a nursing facility in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, the university said on its website.
His focus on religion rather than ideology as a source of conflict in the post-Cold War world triggered broad debate about relations between the Western and Islamic worlds, especially in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.
Despite criticism his thesis was simplistic or in the words of Middle East scholar Edward Said promoted the idea of "West versus the rest," Huntington told Islamica magazine in 2007, "My argument remains that cultural identities, antagonisms and affiliations will not only play a role, but play a major role in relations between states."
Huntington's 2004 book, "Who Are We? The Challenges to America's National Identity," also sparked heated debate by arguing the massive influx of Mexican immigrants to the United States threatened traditional American identity and national unity.
