Stocks gain on Greece, Dow briefly hits 13,000

Stocks gain on Greece, Dow briefly hits 13,000from reuters: Stocks rose on Tuesday, with the Dow briefly topping 13,000 for the first time since May 2008 after Greece secured a bailout to avoid a March default, but gains were limited as investors had priced in expectations of a deal. Signs of improvement in the economy and stabilization of Europe's debt crisis have driven the Dow more than 20 percent since late last year, while the S&P has climbed more than 8 percent so far this year. Euro zone finance ministers agreed on a 130-billion-euro ($172 billion) rescue for Greece to avert an imminent chaotic default after forcing Athens to commit to unpopular cuts and private bondholders to take bigger losses. "This is the most solid agreement Greece has had, with actual money behind it, and that makes the market optimistic," said Phil Flynn, senior market analyst at PFG Best in Chicago.

poverty rate rises as incomes decline

poverty rate rises as incomes declinefrom cnnmoney: Amid a still struggling economy, more people in America fell below the poverty line last year, according to new census data released Tuesday. The nation's poverty rate rose to 15.1% in 2010, its highest level since 1993. In 2009, 14.3% of people in America were living in poverty. "The results are not surprising given the economy," said Paul Osterman, a labor economist at MIT. "You would expect with so many people unemployed, the poverty rate would go up. It's just another sign of what a difficult time this is for so many people." About 46.2 million people are now considered in poverty, 2.6 million more than last year. The government defines the poverty line as income of $22,314 a year for a family of four and $11,139 for an individual. The Office of Management and Budget updates the poverty line each year to account for inflation.

labor day 2011: what are we celebrating, the lack of jobs in america?

labor day 2011: what are we celebrating, the lack of jobs in america?from the economic collapse blog: If you still have a good job, you certainly have something to celebrate on Labor Day 2011. So far you have survived the decline of the U.S. economy. But your day may be coming soon. This weekend, there will be millions of Americans that will not be doing any celebrating. They are not enjoying a break from their jobs because they don't have any jobs. In fact, it seems kind of heartless for the rest of us to be celebrating while so many of our countrymen are destitute. What are we celebrating on Labor Day 2011? The lack of jobs in America? At this point, the U.S. economy closely resembles a gigantic game of musical chairs. Every time the music stops, even more good jobs are pulled out of the game and even more workers are added. Once upon a time, if you really wanted a job in America you could get one. But now the competition for even the most basic jobs is absolutely brutal. If you gathered together all of the unemployed people in the United States, they would constitute the 68th largest country in the world. It would be a nation larger than Greece. All of those unemployed people are not going to be taking trips with their families this holiday weekend. Instead, most of them are going to be trying to figure out what to do with their shattered lives.

greek pm papandreou says 'austerity is patriotic duty'

greek pm papandreou says 'austerity is patriotic duty'from kurt nimmo: Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou has told his fellow countrymen it is their patriotic duty to accept the austerity plan cooked up by the IMF and the EU. If not accepted, Greece will not get the fifth installment of an international bailout, he warned. “I’m not asking you to listen to outside pressures, I ask that you listen to your soul and your internal patriotic conscience,” Papandreou said. Greek opposition parties have rejected demands by EU leaders for national unity on the prospect of unemployment, a lower standard of living, and a massive giveaway of national resources.

updates from greece, thanks to 'one archangel'
Today they voted the midterm package-austerity bailout package and there is chaos on the streets. unlike yesterday where agent provocateurs was the flavor of the day (a fake cat and mouse fight between cops and anarchists) today we have the average folk taking on the cops in a dramatic fashion. Since pictures say a thousand words, the following link has a bunch of great pics that should give you an idea: http://www.zougla.gr/page.ashx?pid=2&aid=339969&cid=4

Also, there is a link that should allow you to see what is going on live on the streets:

In addition, here is a little youtube video that shows 100% proof of agent provocateurs working with Greek Riot cops. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNfnUSWaLnc

corbett report: episode192 - requiem for the suicided: dr. david kelly

corbett report: episode192 - requiem for the suicided: dr. david kellyfrom corbett report: Famed microbiologist and UN weapons inspector Dr. David Kelly became the centre of a dispute between the BBC and the UK government over claims that the government had “sexed up” its dossier on Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction in order to sell the Iraq war to the public. He was found dead on Harrowdown Hill on July 18, 2003. It was ruled a suicide. Today we look at the troubling discrepancies, inconsistencies and questions surrounding that official verdict, and broach the question of what secrets Dr. Kelly may have taken to the grave...
