Today Amiri was quoted by Iranian official media as claiming that the US government had intended to return him to Iran to cover up his kidnapping in Saudi Arabia.
"Following the release of my interview in the internet which brought disgrace to the US government for this abduction, they wanted to send me back quietly to Iran by another country's airline," he told state radio from the Iranian interests office in Washington. "Doing so, they wanted to deny the main story and cover up this abduction. However, they finally failed."

update: doubts remain about adam walsh's murder from mcclatchy: That announcement, delivered at a news conference, was welcomed by Walsh family members, who said they finally had justice. But the announcement drew instant questions from critics who say the evidence against Toole has been shaky, at best, from the start, and who note that police never charged him while he was alive. "I was appalled, absolutely appalled," Pat Brown, a criminal profiler in Washington, said of the decision to close the case. "There is no reason to close a case without sufficient evidence that one particular person has committed the crime." Hollywood investigators who took Toole's early confessions had significant doubts. "My opinion, as is most everyone else from the city of Hollywood, is that he did not do this killing," then-Lt. J.B. Smith concluded in 1984. "The only thing that we will say for sure is that 3,500 hours and $62,000 later, we can't confirm anything he has said."
assaults on border agents increase from kvoa: The U.S. Border Patrol says agents in the Tucson Sector are seeing an increase in assaults along the border. Last fiscal year agents were assaulted 261 times; the year before that there were 216 assaults reported. Agent Mike Scioli says the 22 percent increase is a sure sign the smugglers are frustrated by increased manpower, infrastructure and technology. There are 3,100 agents patrolling Arizona's 262 linear miles of border with Mexico.
mexico more dangerous than iraq from newsmax: The escalating drug war in Mexico has now made America’s southern neighbor a more dangerous place than Iraq, according to Strategy Page, a military affairs Web site. “This month, about 26 people a day are dying from criminal and terrorist violence a day in Iraq. That's a bit lower than the death toll in northern Mexico, which on a bad day (like last November 3rd) saw 58 people killed,’’ the Web site writes in a headlined post, “Mexico: Iraq is Safer.”
