obamessiah: memorial, sacrifice & nuclear threataganda

obamessiah: memorial, sacrifice & nuclear threatagandafrom the hill: President Obama used Memorial Day to call on the nation to give something back to the country to honor those who have “made the ultimate sacrifice” and those who continue to serve in the military. Speaking at the Memorial Amphitheater at Arlington National Cemetery, Obama said he, along with the rest of the country, is indebted to those who have sacrificed their lives for the country. "As a nation we have gathered here to repeat this ritual in moments of peace ... and we have gathered here in moments of war," Obama said. "Today is one of those moments where we pay tribute to those who forged our history but hold closely the memory of those so recently lost." To honor those who have died in service “so that we might know freedom,” Obama called for a moment of silence. "I ask all Americans, wherever you are, whoever you are with, whatever you are doing, to pause in national unity at 3 o’clock this afternoon," Obama said...

The president's Memorial Day schedule was altered slightly on Monday in response to North Korea conducting missile and nuclear tests. North Korea launched three short-range missiles and conducted an underground nuclear test. The launch comes about seven weeks after North Korea tested a long-range missile on April 5. Obama addressed the tests in a statement and an impromptu news conference from the White House's Rose Garden. "North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs pose a great threat to the peace and security of the world and I strongly condemn their reckless action," Obama said. He also said the nuclear test was a "blatant violation" of international law and "contradicted North Korea's own prior commitments" to end its nuclear program. Obama added that the international community and the United States "must take action in response." The United Nations Security Council immediately scheduled an emergency meeting for Monday afternoon to discuss how to respond to the test.
