The Israeli military killed 34 and wounded 171 crew members aboard the USS Liberty on June 8, 1967, during the Arab-Israeli war and suffered no consequence. Israel said it had confused the intelligence ship for an Egyptian vessel. Many intelligence and military officials dispute Israel’s explanation, but that does not matter. Israel has a carte blanche to murder at will. It is almost completely irrelevant when nations and aggrieved parties complain.
from press tv: A deadly Israeli attack on a US ship - an incident largely kept in the dark by Washington - receives new attention with survivors reliving the painful memory. USS Liberty survivors gathered in Washington on Monday to commemorate the 42nd anniversary of the incident and expound on how they were sprayed with bullets by America's "closest ally and beneficiary". On June 8, 1967, the unarmed spy ship USS Liberty was on duty in international waters off the Sinai Peninsula when it was bombarded by Israeli fighter jets and torpedo boats. The two-hour-long attacks killed at least 34 sailors, wounded 173 others and nearly sunk the ship. The attack on the Liberty came at a time when Israel had engaged in a brief but intense war with Egypt and its Arab allies, which coincided with the US war on Vietnam. Although the ship was clearly marked as an American vessel, Israelis declared the attack on Liberty as a simple case of "friendly fire" and "mistaken identity". Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, former US president Lyndon Johnson accepted the Israeli claim and cancelled all investigations into the incident. "It was a case of mistaken identity …I do not care if every man drowned and the ship sank, we will not embarrass an ally," Johnson had told his opponents who demanded an open congressional hearing to address the Israeli claim. USS Liberty survivor Rick Almett, however, begged to differ. "There was a conspiracy between our government and Israel. So that's the reason why they didn't pursue it and why the investigations were covered up because of the alliance of Israel and the United States," Almetti told Press TV.

CNN reported, “CNN Correspondent Karl Penhaul was aboard the 60-foot, Gibraltar-registered pleasure boat Dignity when the contact occurred. In a radio message, the Israelis accused the vessel of being involved in terrorist activity, its captain said.” CNN’s John Roberts talked to McKinney about the experience. “I would call it ramming,” she explained. The Palestinian people in the Gaza strip are seeing the worst violence in 60 years, it is being reported. To date, President-elect Obama has remained silent. The Israelis are using weapons supplied to them by the U.S. government. Strict enforcement of U.S. law would require the cessation of all weapons transfers to Israel. Adherence to international law would require the same. As we are about to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, let us remember that he said:
1. The United States is the greatest purveyor of violence in the world, and
2. Our lives begin to end the day we remain silent about things that matter.
I implore the President-elect to not send Congress a budget that contains more weapons for Israel. We have so much more to offer. And I implore the Congress to vote "no" on any budget and appropriation bills that provide more weapons transfers, period.
Israel is able to carry out these intense military maneuvers because taxpayers in the U.S. give their hard-earned money to our Representatives in Congress and our Congress chooses to spend that money in this way. Let's stop it and stop it now. There's been too much blood shed. And while we still walk among the living, let us not remain silent about the things that matter.
We really can promote peace and have it if we demand it of our leaders.
from dpa: The campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has said he wasn't aware that his Kenyan aunt was reportedly living in the US illegally, the Washington Post reported Sunday. The news about Zeituni Onyango, who is referred to as aunty Zeituni in Obama's memoir, surfaced just as the presidential candidates start counting down hours, not days, to Tuesday's election. Some Democrats have alluded to the fact that the timing of the disclosure seems politically motivated, as it was apparently leaked to a media outlet by a government official. Obama's Republican rival John McCain did not raise the issue on the campaign trail Saturday. Obama's campaign said the Illinois senator had no knowledge of her immigration status and that 'any and all appropriate laws' should be followed, the report said. 'They've talked from time to time. She's been in and out of his life. He didn't even know she was in the country,' Obama's spokesman Bill Burton told broadcaster MSNBC. Onyango, 56, is Obama's father's half-sister. The senator, who grew up in Indonesia and Hawaii, first met his aunt when he travelled to Africa as an adult.
brzezinski: obama will face 'imminent' foreign policy problems from paul joseph watson: Trilateral Commission co-founder and top Obama advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski told CNN yesterday that Barack Obama would be faced with “imminent problems” in the context of foreign policy once he takes office, echoing prophetic warnings made recently by Joe Biden, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright. Appearing on CNN’s Global Public Square with host Fareed Zakaria, Brzezinski said that President Carter contacted him to ask who he should appoint to different posts after he captured the White House, perhaps a hint that Obama might do the same. “The president at one point called me, and rather cleverly asked me who I thought ought to occupy what posts. And I gave him advice. And I finally came to the post of national security adviser,” said Brzezinski, adding that Carter offered him the position. Zakaria asked Brzezinski if the president-elect should “start sending signals to foreign governments... I think it depends on two things - one, on the nature of the president himself, and, two, on the circumstances,” Brzezinski responded. “I think what is going on right now - which is nothing less than a global crisis of American leadership, nothing less than that - I think the president-elect, whoever he is - and I have my own preference - will have to start sending signals right away, and will have to get ready to deal with some imminent problems.”

from kurt nimmo: In the video here, taped in 2007, Barack Obama told public television in Iowa “it is indisputable that the climate is getting warmer” and the government should jack up energy bills up through “price signals” in order to force Americans to accept the globalist agenda. “I think it is important for us to send some price signals to change behavior. You know, if electricity goes up, people start becoming more mindful of their electricity bill,” Obama told Associated Press reporter Mike Glover. Should we expect Obama to revise his contention about global warming now that all four major global temperature tracking outlets (Hadley, NASA’s GISS, UAH, RSS) have released data indicating that over the past year global temperatures have dropped precipitously? Will Obama now admit that solar activity is a much larger driver of climate change than selfish Americans driving SUVs or leaving the lights on? No, because that does not jive with the austerity and impoverishment agenda of our rulers. “We must address the global climate crisis with a single voice, and impose rules that apply worldwide,” declared General Lord Guthrie, director of N.M. Rothschild & Sons, at a secretive Trilateral Commission meeting last year. Guthrie’s use of the word “impose” is not incidental. “We cannot address this crisis as 180 separate nation-states. We must act as a single world state.” In other words, the globalists plan to use the cooked up - or maybe it should be cooled down - climate ruse to usher in a one world government.
nader presses mccain on uss liberty attack from knight ridder: Adding to his usual criticisms of the "corporate candidates" from the two major parties, independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader yesterday introduced a wrinkle, calling on John McCain to come clean aboutIsrael's 1967 attack on the USS Liberty. "He doesn't like to have his character impugned. I'm challenging his character on this point," Nader said in a news conference at the Statehouse. McCain was not involved in the incident, which killed 34 American sailors amid the Six-Day War between Israel and several Arab nations. Israel said the attack was a case of mistaken identity, and McCain's father, Adm. John S. McCain Jr., approved an investigation that determined the incident was a mistake. Nader is among those who think the report was a cover-up. He's dragging McCain into it because the senator wrote a positive note on a 2002 book, The Liberty Incident, that also concluded the attack was an accident. "He has been asked again and again by these Sailors and their families to come clean," Nader said. "Instead, he endorses a propaganda book that says it was accidental. That reflects on his character." The McCain campaign declined to respond.
