Obamanation Coronation: Martin Luther King Jr. and Barack Bushbama

Martin Luther King on Vietnam*
from brasschecktv.com: Bushbama is getting his second four years. Bizarrely, there are still people who equate King and Bushbama. This must be some kind of a sick joke. Instead of wasting time on the inauguration, listen to this forty five year old speech that will trump anything said today or the next four years.

mlk day: quote to be changed on made-in-china memorial

obamessiah marks holiday with call to service
mlk day: quote to be changed on made-in-china memorialfrom ap: A quote carved in stone on the new Martin Luther King Jr. memorial in Washington will be changed after the inscription was criticized for not accurately reflecting the civil rights leader's words.

The inscription currently reads: "I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness." The phrase is chiseled into one side of a massive block of granite that includes King's likeness emerging from the stone. It became a point of controversy after the memorial opened in August.

A spokesman for the U.S Department of the Interior said Friday that Secretary Ken Salazar decided to have the quote changed. The Washington Post first reported on Friday the decision to change the inscription.

The phrase is modified from a sermon known as the "Drum Major Instinct," in which the 39-year-old King explained to his Atlanta congregation how he would like to be remembered at his funeral. He made the February 1968 speech just two months before he was assassinated in Memphis, Tenn.

In the speech, King's words seem more modest than the paraphrased inscription: "Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter."

Poet Maya Angelou previously said the truncated version made King sound like "an arrogant twit" because it was out of context.

media/memes: a year of disappointment for hollywood

movie ticket sales hit 16yr low in 2011*
a year of disappointment for hollywood: movie ticket sales hit 16yr low in 2011from nytimes: With five days left in 2011, ticket sales in North America are running about $500 million behind last year - despite higher prices - prompting a round of soul searching by studios trying to determine what went wrong and how best to proceed. Movies are a cyclical business and analysts say that 2010 benefited mightily from holdover sales for “Avatar,” which was released late in 2009 and became one of the most popular movies of all time. A decline of hundreds of millions of dollars is not catastrophic when weighed against the size of the industry. Over all, North American ticket revenue for 2011 is projected to be about $10.1 billion, according to Hollywood.com, which compiles box-office data. That is only a 4.5 percent falloff from 2010. But studio executives are alarmed by the downturn nonetheless, in part because the real picture is worse than the raw revenue numbers suggest.

obamessiah says we leave iraq with 'heads held high'

not counting those without heads...
obamessiah says we leave iraq with 'heads held high'from cbsnews: President Obama marked the end of the United States' almost nine-year war in Iraq on Monday, saying at an appearance with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki that the final U.S. troops leave Iraq this year "with their heads held high."

Mr. Obama is taking something of a victory lap this week for fulfilling his campaign promise to end the war, which will effectively end when the several thousand remaining troops exit the country by December 31. On Saturday, he thanked service members at the annual Army-Navy football game; on Wednesday, he and first lady Michele Obama will visit Fort Bragg in North Carolina to speak to troops about the war.

"This is a season of homecomings," Mr. Obama said Monday at the White House, flanked by al-Maliki. "Military families across America are being reunited for the holidays."
