The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals will hear from attorneys on both sides in the largest of several lawsuits brought by detainees at the Metropolitan Detention Center. Last year, a supervising officer at the prison was convicted of conspiracy in the assault of an inmate - other similar cases are in progress - but the government says Ashcroft and high-ranking officials in Washington have immunity.
