morrissey wants to perform in iranfrom press tv: Controversial British singer Steven Patrick Morrissey has announced his intention to perform in Iran alongside a number of local artists.

The 48-year-old vocalist is currently in negotiation with Iranian officials to appear at a concert in Iran during his Middle East tour in 2008.

Morrissey's management is awaiting a formal response from Iran's Ministry Of Culture and Islamic Guidance on the matter.

The performance which is slated for June will hopefully feature Arab pop star Kazem al-Sahir.

Morrissey rose to prominence in the 1980s as the lyricist and vocalist of the English band The Smiths. When the band broke up in 1987, Morrissey began a successful solo career, racking up ten Top 10 singles in the United Kingdom.
