The Colorado Republican, who built his long shot presidential campaign on opposition to illegal immigration, languished at the bottom of a big Republican presidential field most of the year.

He added that he was "doing something that I am not comfortable with" in making an endorsement, but that Mr. McCain and the nation deserved it.
