♬Liner Notes♬: Man, I missed seeing Nellie McKay last week and I'm going to miss seeing The Faint soon, but at least I'm still going to see the one and only Morrissey on November 11! (UPDATE: Ooh, just got comped to see Calexico this Sunday!) But for right here and now, we have return visits from Melody's Echo Chamber, Ariel Pink, Tilly And The Wall... Plus, amazing new sounds from The Dustbowl Revival, Mark Mallman, Meshell Ndegeocello and more... So now let's Pump Up Tha Volume!

Melody's Echo Chamber
"I Follow You"
'Melody's Echo Chamber'
Fat Possum, 2012
Note: Pitchfork says that "On September 25, Parisian artist Melody Prochet, aka Melody's Echo Chamber, will release her self-titled debut on Fat Possum... The album was recorded and mixed by Tame Impala's Kevin Parker. Now, album track "I Follow You" has a psychedelic, underwater clip. (It's been a good year for those.) The video was directed by Laurie Lassalle. Melody's Echo Chamber will tour with the Raveonettes this fall..." Melody's Echo Chamber was last heard on Episode027 with the track "Crystalized" and the producer is in Tame Impala who was on Episode019.

Sea Wolf
"Priscilla"
'Old World Romance'
Dangerbird, 2012
Note: Most reviews of Sea Wolf's record aren't very kind. So as Pop Matters notes about this Los Angeles band: "New is overrated. Both in the frenetically trend-cycling province of indie rock and the world as a whole, the novel and unfamiliar can often initially appear to be more exciting and challenging than that which seems based in already-explored territory." Another review said 'Old World Romance' sounded like a collection of Coldplay b-sides... Ouch.

The Dustbowl Revival
"That Old Dustbowl"
'Holy Ghost Station' EP
self-released, 2011
Note: The Dustbowl Revival says on their own Twitter page that "The Dustbowl Revival is a Venice, CA-based roots orchestra. Bluegrass, ethnic swing, swamp blues, jug-bop. They will make you shake your thing." Or as Fense Post says: "Pour out some sweat tea, fire up the banjo, warm up the rocking chair, and get ready for some good old fashioned Americana rock that will easily set your soul aglow and leave you with aspirations towards shucking and diving as The Dustbowl Revival serenade you with some of the most perfect blend of blues, jazz, and pure down home American fun."

Cate Le Bon
"What Is Worse"
'Cyrk II' EP
Control Group, 2012
Note: Song source KEXP notes this Welsh singer/songwriter got her start with the help of Super Furry Animals frontman. "The opening track on Cyrk II, an EP of songs that didn’t make the cut for Le Bon’s second LP, Cyrk, “What Is Worse” is a mid-tempo march that puts Le Bon’s voice front and center to deliver her sharp lyrics.

Mark Mallman
"Double Silhouette"
'Double Silhouette'
Eagles Golden Tooth, 2012
Note: Minneapolis' City Pages says about their hometown boy: Just off the wheels of Marathon IV: Road Rogue, a week-long song performed during a trek from New York to Los Angeles, performer extraordinaire Mark Mallman has unveiled his latest CD, Double Silhouette. Renowned for his high-energy dramatic performances and marathon song cycles, Mallman has won a huge international following for his punk and '70s glam-inspired tunes.

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti
"Schnitzel Boogie"
'Mature Themes'
4AD, 2012
Note: Last heard on Episode021, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti returns to PUTV as Pitchfork's glowing review notes that "Mature Themes is as vital as anything he's ever recorded: Even the throwaway "Schnitzel Boogie" fails at being one-dimensional, playing instead like something McCartney might have worked on for the fifth side of the White Album."

Stagnant Pools
"Solitude"
'Temporary Room'
Polyvinyl, 2012
Note: Song source KEXP says that "One guitar, one drum kit, and one day in the studio – that was all Stagnant Pools needed to record their debut album, Temporary Room. After releasing the record in August, brothers Bryan and Douglass Enas left their college town of Bloomington, IN – home to Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music – to tour with School of Seven Bells, Lotus Plaza, Maximo Park, and Bad Veins. The duo have earned quite a few Joy Division comparisons, and while a bassist is an obvious missing component, Bryan’s baritone voice sounds as haunting and forlorn as Ian Curtis’s at times. And like “Isolation,” from Joy Division’s 1980 album Closer, “Solitude” isn’t about loneliness per se, but rather the claustrophobic sensation of being watched by others."

Tilly and the Wall
"Love Riot"
'Heavy Mood'
Team Love, 2012
Note: Joining Hot Chip and Poor Moon with a three-peat appearance on PUTV, Tilly And The Wall was on Episode026 and last week's Episode028. Pitchfork says "Somewhat ironically, given its professed devotion to creativity and liberation, Heavy Mood's best songs are the ones that offer fresh takes on familiar sounds... the opening lightning bolt that is "Love Riot""

Meshell Ndegeocello
"Feeling Good"
'For a Sovereign Soul: A Dedication to Nina Simone'
Naïve, 2012
Note: The press release says "Meshell Ndegeocello releases her 10th album, 'Pour une ame souveraine' (For a sovereign soul). After a career of more than 20 years, Meshell Ndegeocello, the American singer-songwriter, rapper, bassist and vocalist...recorded a tribute to Nina Simone and play some of the tracks made famous by the icon of black music." The album features guests like Sinead O'Conner, Cody Chesnutt and the title is actually in French as "Pour une Âme Souveraine".

Silver Swans
"Secrets"
'Forever'
Twentyseven, 2012
Note: Obscure Sound says "Silver Swans are a duo from San Fran that excel in tightly constructed, electro-leaning pop gems. Despite the West Coast leanings, they sound like natives of the Swedish electro-pop scene, a highly versatile breeding ground for both brooding atmospheric builders and punchy pop magic."

Wiping Out Thousands
"Beach"
'This Came First'
self-released, 2012
Note: Le Toile Magazine calls 'This Came First' "a really, really fucked up album. I mean that in a good way, natch – it’s genre-defying in a really interesting way; a strange amalgam of styles that never, thankfully, settles into cliche or falls back on Ye Olde Genre Saws to make its point.... And sometimes – not often, but most interestingly, perhaps – it’s pretty and a little sad, as it is on the penultimate “Beach”." The Minneapolis duo will give away their new album on October 23.

Beats Antique
"The Allure"
'Contraption Vol. 2'
Antique, 2012
Note: Wikipedia informs us that "Beats Antique is an American experimental world fusion and electronic music group. Formed in 2007 in conjunction with producer Miles Copeland, the group has become noted for their mix of different genres." The Oakland, CA band's new album is out on Antique Records.

Campfire OK
"Wishing You The Best"
'When You Have Arrived'
self-released, 2012
Note: Seattle Weekly says about their hometown band: "Campfire OK is one of those beautiful, restless entities that don’t stay in one place for too long, but still manage to write concise, focused songs. The band pushes the boundaries of the revival band stigma, incorporating subtle modern elements (synth swells and delay pedals) effortlessly atop the weathered antique frames of their songs."
